One illithid abduction later, and he's walking in the sun with a sorceress and her band of infected misfits, away from Baldur's Gate and two centuries of pain. It was the rarest of opportunities, and he fully intended to use his skills to wrap Tav around his finger to protect himself. To survive while the world came apart at the tadpole-infected seams.
It was in the calm moments, the quiet of the camp, that Astarion began to grasp what exactly it meant when someone unselfishly cared for him. Tav didn't just want him to touch her and tell her sweet things. She wanted him to be free, be whole, be healed- and she would shed blood and magic to those ends.
It feels like hopeful dream- until their centuries of life before one another collide with their present, stringing along a cast of monsters, devils, and traitors who would turn it all into a nightmare.

Baldur's Gate is rebuilding, the companions are drifting back to their own lives, and Astarion is left with a victory he can't stand in the sunlight to enjoy. Elowen chooses not to move on. Instead, she walks the road with him as another traveling companion, sharing tents, watch shifts, and late-night honesty.
What follows isn't a grand prophetic quest, but a quieter, stubborn one: Elowen begins chasing half-whispers and forgotten lore about why the sun burns a vampire spawn who refused ascension. Ruins, odd priests, strange books, wrong questions in the wrong temples—little threads she calls "research" and he calls "madness," even as he continues to follow her lead.
Afterdawn is the stretch of road where nothing huge seems to happen from the outside: campfires, small jobs, detours, close calls, and two people circling something they have no words for yet. Underneath, Elowen is pulling on something old and bright and dangerous.
Eventually the thread catches and by the end, the road looks nothing like it did at the start.

Astarion let out a small, contemplative hum before he turned to Marin. She spotted a nearly imperceptible blush highlighting his cheekbones. His foppish, self-confident mask quickly reappeared, but she was certain it had dropped for a moment.

Summary
Durge Ellith (half-drow bard/sorcerer, pronouns they/them) is struggling with sentiments, and with the way they feel about Astarion. Crippled with doubts about the Urge and their past, they finally face their own fears. As for Astarion, he must accept that his lover still represents a threat.
Timeline: it happens in late Act 3 – a week or so before the events of The Book of Ashes. Orin and Gortash are still alive, Ellith hasn’t clearly defied Bhaal yet, but Astarion has already killed Cazador and decided to not ascend.

Ascended Astarion is called a smoothbrain in the game, it's canon and I love it. This series includes my fics of a redeemable Ascended Astarion that are relatively light hearted, with bits of humor and true to his in game character and personality as much as possible.
They do not include Tav/durge (at least not as his love interest) and are all post game, but that is only because I feel AA can be camptivating if he falls in love for the first time after his ascension.

Summary

Reluctantly, the three former allies become unlikely roommates: a haunted sorceress trying to rebuild her identity, a vampire cut off from daylight, and a wizard with a tower full of books and feelings he refuses to name.
As they research a way to bring sunlight back into Astarion’s life, old wounds resurface, new bonds form, and unspoken feelings begin to stir. Juniper thought saving the world was the hard part. But learning how to live in it might prove even harder.
