Xingqiu stares out into his ocean on his strip of sand, his toes curling on the beach as he watches the waves pull back to sea. Peaceful, tranquil, his family’s ocean and beach. Family comes first, remember that Xingqiu.
The seafoam bubbles and froths where the ocean meets sand, unseen tremors underneath the serene surface. He bites his lips, the spray of the sea landing on his face. The salt erodes skin, his skull and soul laid bare under the darkening sky.
or; it's Lantern Rite and Xingqiu has something to say, something that will bring irreparable ruin to his family.

Now, as Xingqiu lays in bed and recalls the way his father, mother, and brother smile down at him around the dinner table, the weight of being an heir haunts him once more as he considers, for the millionth time: who is my future supposed to be for?
As a fourteen-year-old Xingqiu considers his next steps, an idea comes to mind. As always, it has to do with writing.

Xingqiu tries to think back on the times he’s ever gotten angry throughout his life. Then he thinks maybe he had never actually been angry those times - not truly. Maybe he’s never felt true anger ever before in his life.
Because if he had been angry then, then what he was feeling now could only be called something like fury.
