Summary
The Mills family are seeing out the summer at Gold's Resort in the Catskills. The year is 1963, and Regina is off to college in just a few weeks. Her older sister Kathryn is more intent on finding a husband, while their father is happy enough playing second fiddle to their mother, Cora, one of the few female cardiologists in the country.
Soon after arriving, Regina meets Ruby and Emma, dancers at the resort who teach routines to bored families to pass the time. Befriending other employees like manager-in-training, Sidney and boss's son, Neal, Regina is soon caught up in the lives of these people who feel like they're from another world entirely.
Touching on issues of race and sexuality, the summer takes a very different turn when the subject of (still illegal) abortion raises its head. Regina has to stop thinking about changing the world, and consider changing her own life and the lives of the people around her, all the while battling her feelings for a certain blonde dancer.
