Summary
Researchers can be incompetent in conventional ways: narcissists, traditionalists, frauds, etc. Given this, Ryland Grace hates a lot of academics—hypocritical, since he isn't the model academic himself—but at least his dysfunction produces results.
Simon Fleischer, however, earns a special kind of resentment. Worse, he’s in Ryland’s university anatomy department, a man who likes science because dead things can still be beautiful. Yikes.
A specimen complicates things, and Simon Fleischer is very much still there.
(or alternatively, Grace gets his heart broken in many, many ways.)

When his hand falls away, Six watches him process what is standing at his door. His eyes go from Six, down to Claire, then back up to Six.
He laughs, high and stressed, then closes the door in their face.
OR, Six needs help taking care of Claire after they break free from their respective jails. He decides that his younger brother Ryland Grace is the solution.
