“It’s Megatronus!” Someone whispers. Immediately Starscream turned his helm. Sure enough, the prime was standing at an elevated podium, looking through the crowd before him. Were they going to be personally trained by Megatronus Prime himself?
He could hear him speaking, but the words didn’t process. Starscream was preoccupied with other thoughts, with a realization: he had to be the best. He would work until he was falling into pieces if it meant he’d get to be at the top, to be the leader of the high guard, to be Megatronus Prime’s right-hand man.

Takes place before the events of Transformers One. How Starscream came to be the leader of the High Guard, how in becoming that he formed a relationship with Megatronus Prime, and we all know how it ends.

It was just. Too coincidental for Starscream not to be suspicious. Megatron announces his plans for an inter-faction tournament, an idea, he claims, came to him only after hearing the Construction's reports on the renovation of the Pits a few days prior. One that definitely had nothing to do with a certain argument he had with Starscream that happened the previous day.
Right. Sure.
But Starscream could overlook all of that - albeit with a healthy dose of skepticism and doubt - if it weren’t for the victor’s reward.
Or,
On a Decepticon-ruled Cybertron, Megatron decides to host faction-wide tournament with a rather heavy-stakes prize on the line. Starscream is not too keen on this idea for several reasons.

Megatron circled Rodimus’s wrist, his optics glinting in the club’s harsh light. “You’re a fool if you believe that,” he muttered, running his thumb over Rodimus’s palm.
Rodimus snorted. “You’re stupid if you don’t. You’re good to me.”
OR;
The one thing Rodimus wants more than anything else is to make his crew happy aboard the Lost Light. Actually, that's the second thing he wants. The first is his co-captain—professionally, of course. Megatron isn't much better. His spark tells him to make Rodimus the happiest mech who's ever lived and his frame says to just be satisfied with what he's got. His processor says to bash his helm in until he doesn't think about it anymore.
Both make it everybody else's problem.

But, to his dismay, the lights stayed dim.
As they always did.

Or, Starscream lays dud eggs, and after a fateful night with Optimus, he winds up pregnant with a full clutch. Now, he needs to find a way to bring up his new family without Megatron finding out.

Starscream wakes up on the battlefield as a sparkling with no memories of how he got there. It's not the Decepticons that take him home, though: it's the Autobots. The feared Deception Second is now a cute, precocious sparkling with no memory of the enemies he's now living with.
(or, Optimus found a sparkling and adopted him instantly. It's hardly the first time.)
