"Why are we doing this in my room?" Gavus's voice sounds uncertain, almost timid, and it's so unlike his usual self—composed, cold, unapproachable. Now he stands in the middle of his immaculately clean bedroom, feeling like a teenager alone for the first time with the object of his desire.
Eugene is already busy behind him, deftly unbuttoning his pristine white shirt. His fingers move with frightening confidence, as if he's undressed Gavus a hundred times before, as if he knows every fastening on his clothes better than the owner himself.
"So you won't be able to tell dream from reality, my little dove," Eugene whispers directly into his ear, and a shiver runs down Gavus's spine.

Lou set down his mug of hot chocolate and slowly shifted his gaze from one to the other. Something flickered in his eyes — surprise, or maybe mischief.
“You want to leave me with two children so you can go on a date?”
“Three,” Cole corrected. “Bonzle is also a child. Morally speaking.”

He walked down the steps, carefully so as not to wake the child, and got into the car. Geo patted his shoulder. Bonzle turned in her seat and smiled. Even Fritz was snoring with some calm certainty — everything was okay.
Lou stood on the porch and watched them until the headlights disappeared around the corner. The house fell quiet again, but the silence no longer felt so empty.
It was filled with echoes — voices, footsteps, laughter.
And hope that now they would surely return.
