Count D looks down for a moment and when he raises his head it is as if that pleasant smile had never been gone. “I know you are very good at following rules, Hanguang-Jun. I have no doubt you will uphold your contract.”
A light cloud of the incense billows out, drowning Lan Wangi in its scent and when it begins to clear he steps forward, peering into the near darkness. He senses movement and a large shape nearby. His fingers twitch toward his qiankun sleeve but he resists activating a light talisman and after just a moment another lantern flares to life, bathing the room in warm amber light.
Every part of Lan Wangi’s body freezes, his blood runs icy cold then lava hot. He blinks rapidly, he feels sudden wetness on his cheeks and distantly surmises that he might be crying. His heartbeat is so loud, reverberating through his chest. He cannot speak, cannot breathe.
The figure sprawled across the plush couch cocks its head to the side in a gesture as familiar as air and smiles like the sun rising over the mountains. “Lan Zhan, what took you so long?”
Lan Wangji is given his heart's desire and possibly his ruin.

Summary
Wei Ying is missing five years of his life.
He does not know that he fell in love. He does not know the child he wanted to raise. He does not know he shared a life with another person, and he does not know how it almost killed him.
Lan Zhan’s world begins and ends with his son, and for five years, he has carried the burden of memory. But then Wei Ying somehow finds his way back into their lives, inexplicably drawn to a boy who should have been his, and to a man who refuses to let him in.
And Lan Zhan, who has already lost him once, chooses to lose him again.
