Summary
Lan Wangji came to the Burial Mounds after the Siege to see for himself the state of things after the massacre. Fighting through the pain from his recent whippings, he did his best to find something, anything that could be saved.
Upon seeing a feverish A-Yuan, he opted to return to the Cloud Recesses and care for the child. It was then that he realized A-Yuan was not the only one left in the massacre when he couldn’t move after approaching the child. He felt something firm and warm shifting beside him, bracing him closer towards it.
“...Lan Zhan…”
He met eye to eye with Wei Wuxian, who was looking at him with an unreadable expression. Lan Wangji’s heart filled with too many emotions at once, unsure if this was a dream. The huge arachnid leg sprouting from Wei Wuxian’s back, stirring faintly, only made the moment feel more unbelievable.
The pain from his back finally caught up to him, making him faint.
“Lan Zhan!”

As Shang Qinghua was thinking that particular thought, he heard crying. A baby crying. Startled, Shang Qinghua rushed to the riverside. Sure enough, there was a baby in a little basket, washed ashore. A baby that was so adorable, it couldn’t be anyone but the Protagonist.

These people who revered him when he used his abilities against the Wen are now the same ones pillaging and destroying the meagre place he could call home after everything he went through.
Despite it all, his priority was to prevent anyone from ever using his Tally. The inhabitants were getting slaughtered left and right. It’s too late. He looked around, helpless, ‘at least Lan Zhan wasn’t here. He’s just too good.’ With all his remaining strength, he tried to destroy his Tally. The resentment was overflowing, he felt like he was getting ripped apart.
Everything went black.
Wei Wuxian was now holding Wen Zhuliu’s core in his hands, the carnage of the Wen around him amidst the green flames. Resentful energy is energy. If he can’t cultivate like before, he could modify his path a bit. He never cultivated demonically, he manipulated already existing resentment.
