“Can I stay tonight?”
Max turns his head away from the TV screen and towards Charles.
“Is it one of those?” Max asks, just to make sure. He would not deny Charles whatever it is he needs; but he does need to know what that is.
“Not that bad,” Charles says, fingers digging into the pillow when he finally shifts around to face Max. “I just- I don’t want to be alone tonight.”
“Okay.”
.It’s not more than what it is - not more than it looks. Sometimes, Charles needs contact. Often, Max is there to provide it because he’s the same. Always, they come out feeling more grounded and happier than they were before they started.
This is an ode to friendships so comfortable you can do anything and it's all good. I promise you it's both as soft as and way dirtier than the summary makes it look.
