Summary
He wasn’t born blind. Because of that, he could remember exactly what certain things looked like- could picture them clearly in his mind. The beautiful confusion of a crystal chandelier, the dark organic lines of polished wood, the center bright yellow of a flickering candle. Things his fingers would never be able to translate for him.
It meant that at 19, Sanji could navigate the world from a combination of memory and new sensory experiences. The scent and taste of paprika was that which he could still experience, while the red color remained lost to another time even if it was still, in fact, red. On good days if he opened his eyes and squinted for a long, long minute, he thought he could see the blur of that desert-sky spice through the white-blue tinge of glass, but maybe it was just his own imagination filling in blanks.
The lost color of paprika didn’t bother him. What bothered him was when people acted like this was some great loss on his part. He’d been pitied by enough customers when he was younger to fulfill a lifetime quota of pity, thank you very much. Granted, he’d walked into an awful lot of furniture in those days. At least now when he walked into furniture he did it in a really cool way. -

All four parents are quick to grab onto one another, steadying each other and trying to stay on their feet. Outside of a select few in town and themselves no one really dared to say their children's names, either out of respect or misplaced fear for themselves or their own kids. It was like even speaking the names of them would get them cursed. If they were talked about it was in passing, people hesitating when it came to saying any of their names or they were whispered amongst others as if their lives and disappearance was some sick and twisted fairy tale. So to hear their names mentioned so casually, as though they had no knowledge of the pain and fear that can be brought about for most just by thinking of them. They’re headed to the orphanage. Wolfwood knows it’s a bad idea to bring Vash to the orphanage, but he’s run out of options. He can’t leave Vash behind to deal with Knives alone when he hasn’t even gotten used to his legs yet, and he can’t ignore the hostages he just gave up by saving him in the first place. They’re fucked in every way they can be. The world is ending, and they’re taking a break to rescue some kids who will be doomed if Vash can’t get back on his feet regardless.

An alteration to the timeline directly following the events of Volume 8, in which Vash has lost his legs on the Ark. Instead of heading out on his own, Wolfwood brings Vash along to make sure somebody is looking after him while he adjusts to his new prosthetic legs.

Phases of Snufmin in autumn. Ficlet collection of short-ish one-shots I don't have anywhere else to put.
One: "Red." Moomintroll invites Snufkin apple-picking in the orchard.
Two: "Early Dark." Moomintroll and Snufkin go fishing, complain about handsome guests, and are generally oblivious.
Three: "Baking With Apples." Alone in the house on a rainy day, Moomintroll decides to do some baking, and Snufkin keeps him company.
Four: "Harvest Festival Part I" The Moomins visit a (American-style >.>;) harvest festival for good, drama-free fun. For Moomintroll, this is of course impossible.
Five: "Harvest Festival Part II" Turns out Moomintroll and Snufkin have no guards against the sales strategies of wily festival merchants.
Six: "Harvest Festival Part III" Moomintroll gets "advice" from an unlikely source. The trouble is it's just so difficult to stay angry at a snufkin.
Seven: "Harvest Festival Part IV" In which a haunted maze probably isn't the best choice for a lovers' tiff.
Eight: "Harvest Festival Part V" Moomintroll's brave but foolhardy decision leads him into a ghost-filled nightmare. -
