Wei Wuxian is fatally injured, but Lan Wangji is nothing if not stubborn.
“If I was gone, Hanguang-Jun, what would you do?”
He asks it on a quiet morning at the end of summer, the hum and click of insects outside whispering into the Jingshi. It’s warm once the mist burns off the Recesses, and bright with dappled sunlight.
Lan Wangji looks at him, brow pinched. “Nothing,” he says after a moment.
It is, he discovers three months later, the first lie Lan Wangji has ever told.

Summary
He keeps singing, matching Lan Zhan’s melody and making it something luscious, vibrant and heartfelt, perfectly embodying the sentiment Lan Zhan had intended when he wrote the song. Longing for a distant home, a place he adored but would never return to. It feels like Lan Zhan shared his inner thoughts, his heartfelt feelings, with this man on the internet. This man who has crafted something so strange – and yet so right.

The Killing Chord strikes Jingyi’s appointed boulder. It cracks that in half, too.
Not half a second after Lan Yuan follows Jingyi into the crevice, the yaoguai strikes the stone, talons scrabbling at the crevice, beak pecking at the entrance they’ve made themselves. A red, furious, glowing eye peers in after them, and Lan Yuan stumbles back blindly, vaguely downwards. He’s staring at the entrance, at the clear and present danger. Neither of them are looking backward.
In hindsight, it’s the worst mistake they make all day.
Wei Ying has spent years sealed under a mountain. It's just his luck that the kids who break him out of it are Lans.
