Summary
Suddenly feeling a lot more nauseous and a lot less accomplished, he sat down next to the fire, which was now just a gentle smolder. Bringing his knees up to his chest, he wrapped his arms around them, rested his head against them, and stared into the fire. One of his hands found its way to his neck, grasping the compass still hanging there. The wind was howling through the trees and if he tried he could almost hear a voice in it, calling something he couldn’t make out. Each creaking branch and rustle in the grass seemed to add to it, creating a sort of wild harmony. Despite everything, it was soothing, a lullaby he hadn’t heard since he was just a tiny baby in a basket, deposited in the woods in a strange moment of mercy, yet to be found by a man with wings.
