Silva Pharmaceuticals never contacted her after she delivered the serum, and she assumed they hadn’t figured out it wasn’t the real thing. No news was good news. She hoped.
But the quiet nagged at her. The old thrills ate at her. She missed it; the rush of the job, the adrenaline that came with knowing everything could go wrong. But she couldn’t go back. She refused the jobs because she knew one wrong step and she could end up in another nightmare, or worse, cross paths with someone as dangerous as Alexander.
Alexander was right. She would never forget him. His hands, his voice, his cruelty, they’d burrowed into her, twisted her in ways she couldn’t undo, rotting her like an apple from the inside out. She hated it. Hated him.
