Lexi has managed to avoid every single house party from late April until now, so it’s about time her luck has run out. It’s the Fourth of July and she finds herself being dragged to some gathering in a mansion with an excited Maddy and a cautious Jules - her standard excuse of playing Rue’s sober buddy null and void this holiday weekend as her best friend is out of town at the lake house of some coworkers of her moms. He has learned to ignore the rising number of missed texts that pop up on the messages icon, more worried about the day the number stays the same and less about how high they get. It’s not as frequent these days, two months come and gone from when he pushed Lexi out of his life without a word, but he finds his fingers near constantly hovering over their text thread, an itch deep in his spine to just give in already.
