Summary
Janus’s entire deal with being a slightly evil anarchist librarian in a stolen bookmobile would be going a whole lot better if he didn’t have to deal with UNEXPECTED COMPLICATIONS IN LIFE brought about by A VERY SMALL EIGHT YEAR OLD wearing A NECKTIE TOO BIG FOR HIM who has SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE HEADMISTRESS OF HIS SCHOOL and also INEXPLICABLE PSYCHIC POWERS.
At least he totally hasn't caught unexpected emotions about it.

“Virgil! Virgil c'mon! Cup ramen is better!”
“No! It tastes like styrofoam!”
“It’s supposed to!”
Virgil took a sip of his coffee, watching idly as the Duke dodged Prince's fist and fired back a a punch of his own, straight into the Prince's face. The panes of the shop windows rattled. “I hate them,” he mumbled to the cup. “This is the worst morning.”
“You’re supposed to make ramen yourself!” an explosion boomed. “There's more to it than boiled water!”
"They could just. Leave me alone."
"You are the worst!"

Hours: one AM to two PM(Somewhere on the Border between two warring superpowered factions, there's a tiny cafe run by a sole resigned barista who's getting really sick of the continued tomfoolery.)
Or,
Virgil forces Remus and Roman to get along because a war is bad for business and he’s done giving them first aid in the middle of the night because they keep beating each other up instead of talking. It's really their fault he never realizes the infuriating brothers they're sobbing over are actually each other. He's too tired for this.Bookmarked by Listenerofshadows

“He’s a—he’s a what?” Zuko wasn’t sure he’d heard her properly.
“Our father, Lord and Leader of Agni’s people, has undergone a ritual that turned him into a chicken,” Azula stated again, sounding annoyed she’d had to repeat herself, which Zuko didn’t think was really fair. “To increase his strength.”
“A chicken.”
“Yes, for strength reasons," Azula said, examining her sharp fingernails. "It’s a form of advanced spiritual meditation.”
"A chicken."
Deep in the depths of the Fire Nation's palace, Ozai and the Fire Sages (side note: that would be a sick band name) have unearthed a mysterious artifact, which fell from the sky many centuries ago. The accompanying scroll promises to grant those who complete a certain ritual total domination of the natural world. Fire Lord Ozai, the man that he is, completes the ritual with no hesitation.
The ritual then swaps him with a chicken.
(The Ozai is a chicken and nothing changes AU, that nobody asked for but everyone deserves)

Summary
Even among the rest of their eccentric and varied crew, Janus manages to be an enigma. Logan has never liked leaving questions unanswered, but as captain of a rescue vessel it was important to remain professional and to respect the boundaries of his crewmates...however deeply his ignorance might frustrate him. At least until an improbable conversation offers a glimpse past the walls Janus has built up around himself...
A conversation on the absurd topic of space cryptids of all things.

Summary
Nothing had changed in the few days he’d been gone, not really. The walls were still grey. The ceiling was still made up of fiberboard tiles. The lights were still the same sterile fluorescents. But it felt different, to Janus.
To Deceit, the headquarters was his primary base of operations. It was where every mission started, and where every mission ended. Brief, mission, debrief. Deceit always returned here. In a way, this was where Deceit himself was born.
To Deceit, this was home.
But to Janus, the grey walls were sickly, and the fluorescent lights gave him a headache. This wasn’t a place of safety to Janus; this was a place he needed to leave behind him forever.
(or: the boys storm the headquarters, and this story's first chapter finally comes to a close)

Summary
Mortally wounded during a hostile takeover of his planet, Logan has lived for more than a decade as a Cyborg- scientifically more machine than human. He has resigned himself to life as little more than a household object before Cyborgs are unceremoniously outlawed throughout the planet. The penalty for so much as associating with a known Cyborg is death. Yet his childhood best friend Patton considers some risks, even to his life, well worth it. Patton and Logan set off in Patton's shoddily crafted spaceship in search of little more than survival. When they come across a Prince exiled from a planet lightyears away who may just be able to put an end to a devastating war, they must decide whether yet another set of risks is worth taking. Meanwhile, Logan wrestles with his humanity (or lackthereof) and the implications of a Cyborg's burgeoning affection for his once-lost best friend. Prince Roman holds out hope that he will be reunited with his twin brother, but must the stupidly attractive bounty hunter assigned to bring Remus to their enemy persist in pulling on Roman's heartstrings? In the end, all anyone aboard the Good Ship Sybil really hopes for is that something worthwhile can be made from all their wretched pieces.

Summary
Creativity's room was bigger than Ariel’s cave of human things, and the decorations changed every day. Sometimes it even shifted into a giant white space where anything was possible, but most of the time it stayed firmly indoors. Without another Side to play with, it was absolutely, positively boring. Creativity flopped onto his bed like a disgruntled starfish and sulked.
After a few minutes of dramatic wallowing, the mirror across from his bed shimmered, and his reflection sat up and glowered. "What're you sitting around for?” it complained, hair mussed. Creativity reached up to his head to smooth it down, but the reflection didn’t bother. “This is boring. You’re supposed to copy me.”
“You were laying down too,” Creativity sniffed. “And you’re the mirror. You copy me.”
*
Thomas turns nine, and Creativity's mirror starts talking to him.
It'd be a lot less creepy if he hadn't started losing his memory at the same time.

Here are some facts: All forests are connected. Some stories demand sacrifices. Nature has the strangest tendency towards uncanny symmetry. And none of the Sides are really prepared for a musical, magical, high-fantasy rescue mission, but it looks like that's what they're going to have to do anyway.
That is to say - Thomas seems to have been kidnapped by fairies.
Someone should really do something about that.

Summary
He walks forward, crouching over the snake, and when it doesn’t stir at all, he works up his courage and pokes it, just a little. Its scales are warm and smooth under his fingertip, and he resists the urge to stroke them. He doubts he could get away with that.
“Janus?” he asks, trying to keep the somewhat hysterical laughter from his voice. “That you?”
Thomas didn't know that Janus could turn into an actual snake, but he's glad to hang out with him regardless. More than glad; ecstatic, even, because he's been trying to figure out how to befriend him for ages, and this seems like a good first step. What he can't figure out is why human-Janus is being so weird about it.
(Alternatively: Janus doesn't trust easily. He wishes he could stop trusting Thomas— it would be so much less terrifying.)

Summary
Remus was a lot of things; trashy, gross, inappropriate. He did things without thinking and ignored any consequences that came of it. That is what everyone told him about himself so it had to be true. Everything he did was just a passing whim of unimportance.
"Can a side even die?" He asked to the wind as he fell toward the ground.

He is whatever puts Thomas first. But that changes so often that he doesn’t know what he is beyond that.
He is Janus when he is alone, but only when he is not someone else.
Janus has never minded the fact that his identity is fluid, ever-changing. He acts as whoever Thomas needs him to be in the moment, and if that means he doesn't know much about himself as an individual, well. It's never been a problem for him.Until he gives away his name, and then it very much is.

Summary
He couldn't turn around.
Patton knew it was silly to be so upset about it, but it stayed on his mind no matter what, relentless like a raven who'd found a tail to pluck. His thoughts would wander into a daydream of playing with new cubs or feeling a cool breeze or seeing the moon all full and beautiful, shining up where no one could touch her- and then he'd take a deep breath or shift his weight, and the bars of the crate would cut into his skin.
*
Or: In the human world, outside the sovereign Wilds, there's a market for magical beings. Patton's been captive for months, hiding his true nature to avoid a fate worse than death- but he's losing hope, and it's only a matter of time before his secret is revealed.
When his captors finally find a buyer, he knows things can only get worse.

Except even a prince can’t do everything alone. Along the way he picks up a motley collection of companions: Patton, a cheerful traveling bard with more songs than sense and more weapons than songs; Logan, a talented healer tucked away in a remote village; and Virgil, a wandering nomad always skulking in the shadows.

Summary
Virgil was frantically pacing his room, pulling at his hair, glancing between all the words surrounding him. Words on his laptop, which sat opened on the couch with many tabs open and overlapping each other. Words on the many, too many, books lying open on the floor, the table, the couch. Words on the scattered papers and notebooks he had scribbled in. Words on the wall, where the highlights of his research had been pinned in an arrangement that would make any Tumblr theorist proud. Words in a language few knew of and even fewer speak, a fact that would normally bring him comfort but now only brought frustration. And then he looked at the number. The horrible, circled date on the calendar on his wall that he had been refusing to look at. Because Virgil had one month. One month before everything caught up with him. One month before everything would fall apart. It all had started with a simple deal. A simple, selfless agreement. But now, now that simple transaction is going to destroy him.
Now Virgil Sanders had one month to make himself disappear. All for a simple deal. But then again, things are never that simple are they?
