This story follows the love between 17-year-old Eddie and Richie as they navigate growing up in Derry in the 1990s. In a small town where a love between two boys is met with resistance, they face bullying, trauma, and the brutal violence inflicted by the Bowers gang. Roman pauses the movement of his hand for long enough to glance over at Peter’s reflection. He’s leaning his shoulder casually against the wooden threshold, his feet crossed at the ankles- too casual, Roman notes. Peter’s eyes are locked, not onto the mirror, but onto Roman’s body with such focus he’s barely blinking. There’s a faint flush on his cheeks that could be blamed on the steamy air, but Roman knows better.
Well, then. Game on.

In trying to carry it out, however, they discover just what the Sky People are really up to... and the twelve recoms they've already met are only the beginning. No AI was used in the writing of this story.

The rebel child didn’t say a word during standard verbal questioning, took every hit during a more ‘physical’ approach, and has even managed to fight off the mental assault of the RDA’s last interrogation resort. The neuroscanner.
Battered, bloody, and bruised. And yet, the child does not break. Colonel Miles Quaritch decides to take the ‘personal approach’ and take the boy into the forest to utilize his Pandoran knowledge elsewhere.
Not to mention something deep inside the Colonel was angry, and terrified, after watching the boy suffer at the hands of the system he’s so loyal to…
The first few nights pass by without incident, aside from the boy hazing the living hell out of the Deja Blu 1st Recom Unit. They’re hardened marines dealing with a teenager; they’ve dealt with far worse. The boy seems physically fine, but his mind seems elsewhere half the time…distracted and hostile at the slightest command.
Quaritch can’t claim to know this boy, this son of his genetic predecessor, but he knows something is extremely wrong with Spider…

The Metkayina are a perceptive people; they watch with greater focus than the Omatikaya or humans. They pay attention to small nuances in both the people and their surroundings. They understand the water and it's creatures because they grow up taking in information most people might not even notice.
To them Spider is new and strange; so they watch him. They worry that he will be cruel, set their Maruis on fire, or attack their ilu. What they find out is that this boy is actually quite intelligent, tireless, and always trying to help; a promising young warrior. He does more chores in the village than any other youth. He seeks to not hold a weapon and is always around when more help is needed. He gathers, weaves, and hunts for the clan. He provides.
But he is also clearly very lonely. He cares for others- but no one cares for him. The Sullies are not his family, so... The boy is free to join another? Right? And who wouldn't want another child, especially such a mentally strong one.
