Jim took off running.
He had been here before. Running to reach Spock after he had given his life to save the Enterprise. Arms holding him back, telling him it was too late. Spock’s hand against the glass that parted them.
“Spock.” Pain and anger crept into his voice. He put a hand on Spock’s knee and felt him shiver. “You don’t have to face this alone. I would give my life for you if I could, and right now, this is what I can do.” Spock’s eyes remained closed; he gave no sign he’d heard. “It is illogical to die when there is a way to survive."
