Summary
"Buck?" Eddie called as he walked further into the firehouse. He cursed the blackout and wanted nothing more than for Buck to pop out, wearing his signature smile and laughing off Eddie's concern. The alpha felt something twist sharply inside his chest as panic started to crawl in his veins. It was the panic of an alpha acknowledging that their mate was missing. Mate, because while he was trying to make things work with Ana, his true mate had been right in front of him.
Slowly, Eddie rounded to the front of the firehouse and white nosie filled his ears as he picked up the ebbs of Buck's scent. Followed swiftly by two more scents; an unknown alpha and the metallic taste of blood. Something old and ancient woke up inside Eddie as the others crowded around him, faces pale as they spotted the blood on the ground.

Summary
Captain Buckley, who is steady, who has his shit together, who definitely does not recognize his new probie because he spent a night eight years ago with his hands in that man's hair whispering things against his skin that would get him fired on the spot if anyone in this building ever found out.
"You must be Eddie Diaz." His hand goes out. Not shaking, by some miracle that deserves its own cathedral, its own patron saint, the patron saint of men who are dying inside and shaking hands about it. "Welcome to the 118. It’s nice to meet you, I’m Captain Buckley."
Eddie takes his hand. A firm grip, calloused in places Buck doesn't remember, but Buck's skin recognizes him anyway, every nerve, all at once.
"Captain." Eddie's voice is level, pleasant, perfectly neutral, and Buck would buy it completely if he couldn't see the tension bolted into Eddie's shoulders. "Thanks for having me." A beat. "You got a first name, Captain Buckley?"
"Evan. But most people just call me Buck."
"Buck," Eddie repeats, tasting it, dragging it out, and Buck's stomach drops through the floor. "Suits you."
Or,
Captain Buckley WILL NOT fuck his new probie, okay? At least, not again. -

Summary
“So…” he drags out the word, long and languid, taking another pull from his bottle. Pushes harder. “That’d be okay with you?”
“What would?”
“If I… you know, brought someone here?” Buck drapes his arm over the back of the couch, expectant. Eager for Eddie’s answer.
Eddie just shrugs.
So Buck shoves. “Maybe we need to make some rules?”
“Rules?” Now Eddie’s frowning.
“Y-yeah. Or, like, a system. For… guests?”
Eddie’s eyes narrow in confusion and then widen. He chokes a little, coughs, and when he speaks, his voice has dropped an octave, husky at the edges. “What’d you have in mind?”
or: Buck and Eddie implement a system for sexiling each other. Except it only works if you respect the system.

"I'm kidding, relax." Buck grins at him, radiating false innocence, and takes another sip. "Although I bet if I really wanted you to do something, I'd just have to ask nicely. Say please."
He pauses, Eddie can see the mischief brewing, can practically see the gears turning in Buck's head. "Or maybe just call you sir. That seems to work pretty well."
Eddie stops breathing. So much for trying to act natural.
Buck is watching him now, really watching him with sharp curious eyes and Eddie can feel himself being catalogued, examined, picked apart and analyzed like a bug under a microscope.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Eddie says, which is a blatant lie and they both know it.
"Sure you don't." Buck pushes off the counter, still smiling that infuriating smile. "Whatever you say, sir."

BREAKING NEWS: Is Los Angeles Rams’ wide receiver Evan “Buck” Buckley shooting his shot with superstar singer Eddie Diaz?
During his latest podcast appearance on The Line of Scrimmage, Buckley revealed that he attended Eddie’s sold-out concert at SoFi Stadium earlier this month. When asked if he got a chance to meet the singer, Buck confessed with a grin:
“I tried to, but I didn’t get the chance. I actually made him a friendship bracelet—yeah, like the fans do—but I guess it didn’t make it to him. So, Eddie, if you’re listening, bracelet’s still here.”

Summary
After a pause, Eddie asked, “You ever think about just… keeping it going?”
Buck blinked. “What, like living together forever?”
A snort filled the air, and Eddie looked half amused and half serious. “I dunno, maybe? Something like that. I mean, look, it’s a new year, right? Anything could happen. But neither of us wanna be alone forever. So, maybe if we’re both still single in a year or whatever, we could just—” he waved a hand vaguely, like he was lassoing the future— ”make it official.”
“Official?” he echoed, head even fuzzier now.
Eddie’s mouth twitched. “Yeah, we could just get married, or something close enough to it."
Buck’s heart tripped over itself.
On New Year's Eve, Buck and Eddie made a drunken pact: if they were both still single in a year, they'd marry each other. They didn't mean to start sabotaging the other's love life to make it happen, but somewhere along the way, that's exactly what they ended up doing.
Now the only question is... how far are they willing to take it?

“So what’s your real name, then?” Eddie asks, sipping on his own drink—a whiskey he’s swirling around in the glass constantly.
“Evan,” Buck says coyly, quickly adding, “But nobody really calls me that.”
“Evan,” Eddie echoes, the sound dripping off his tongue like thick honey. “I like it.”
It almost makes Buck regret to ever abandon it in the first place, driving a shiver down his spine. Almost.
“And what’s Eddie short for? Eduardo?” he quickly shifts the conversation, stirring his drink and popping another peanut into his mouth. Eddie shakes his head and chuckles.
“Edmundo,” he corrects him, then winks at Buck with a low, “But nobody really calls me that.”or the one where Buck and Eddie have a one-night-stand two days before Eddie starts at the 118.

“Bye,” Eddie mumbles distantly, and when Buck finally manages to open his eyes again, Eddie is halfway out the door already.
Puzzled, he just stands there, listens to the slam of the door and the starting of the truck outside, his mind spinning and his lips still tingling.
Eddie has just kissed him. Actually kissed him, like it was the most normal, casual thing in the world, like this was what they always do, a routine they follow, a dance they’ve learned.
Except it’s none of that.,or the one where Eddie and Buck live together, and things get out of hand.

“I just don’t see what the big deal is,” Chimney says, joining them at the table. “Why don’t you just go on the trip, Buck? Take Eddie. We can get your shifts covered, it’s, what—three nights?”
“The big deal,” Buck says in exasperation, slamming his fork down, “is that it’s a couples retreat. For couples.”
“And?” Chimney raises his eyebrows, still not buying it.
“And I entered the giveaway when Tommy and I were still together!” Buck snaps. ”I don’t want t-to—it would just feel weird, okay? It’s supposed to be all—like, romantic. Flower petals on the bed and stuff.”
Buck and Eddie take a romantic getaway. Platonically.

“I think it might be time for you to go.”
“What—why?” Buck asked.
“You’re a freshman, Buck,” Eddie accentuated the syllables of his name. “You shouldn’t really be here.”
“I have just as much a right to be here as you do.” Buck argued, adjusting himself so he was standing up perfectly straight. Making himself bigger. He was taller than Eddie, he noticed.
So why did he still feel so small standing next to him?

Summary
Soulmates can feel each other's pain, they get physical marks of each other's injuries. Every bruise, scratch, and broken bone gets plastered in bright red against your soulmate's skin.
Eddie knew his soulmate was somewhere out there, constantly hurt. He'd had red marks all over his body for as long as he could remember. He hadn't meant to get tied up with Shannon, hadn't meant for her to start leaving her own marks on him, but it happened before he could stop it.
His soulmate saw his hickey and raised him scratches, so he hit back with a bite mark.
---
Buck hadn't meant to start this bad habit, but when he saw that his soulmate had no intentions of waiting for him, he snapped. Sleeping with some random girl so she would leave physical evidence on his body wasn't his original plan.
But when his soulmate let someone bite them, he was done. He'd lost every round of his life, his parents, his sister, but he wasn't losing this game. If his soulmate wanted to play, he'd win. He'd prove he didn't need them. With every mark someone else left on him, he was winning.
At least that was what he kept telling himself.

He’s so close. But Buck’s face sways even closer, eyes hyper-focused on Eddie’s mouth, like he wants to ensure that what he whispers next make its way inside:
“The quiet, closeted catastrophe of Edmundo Diaz—performed nightly for an audience of none.”
Eddie flinches. For a second, all the noise in his head goes silent.
“W-what—” Eddie’s voice cracks and he’s trying to frown, trying to be mad, but he feels exposed, so his words come out broken, confused. “What’s that supposed to mean?”or: buck fights back during the kitchen scene in 8x17 and it sends eddie spiralling

Summary
Everyone knows that when you touch someone who's going to be important to you for the first time, you'll leave a mark on them. It's not just romantic love; parents and children, siblings, close friends all share marks too. At least, they do in theory. Maddie's the only person who's ever touched Buck and left anything behind.
.
It’s funny, growing up knowing your parents don’t care about you. The kind of funny that would get Evan uninvited from sleepovers, which is why he always changes into his pajamas in the bathroom. The kind of funny that he’s not allowed to ask his parents about. The kind of funny that makes Maddie look at him so sadly sometimes, when she doesn’t realize he can see her out of the corners of his eyes.
