Ahsoka laughed awkwardly, rubbing her left wrist. “He’s not my batchmate.” That was a term for clones who were linked together, bonded siblings. “We’re not - the same.”

Each point Master Tapal made felt like a blow to the chest, stinging even worse than the training remotes had during Shii-Cho practice. Somehow, Cal managed to stay on his feet instead of crumbling into a crying heap in front of his Mast… soon to be former Master. Any moment now, Jaro Tapal would break the news that he no longer wanted Cal.
Lip quivering and tears threatening to fall, Cal looked up and met Master Tapal’s face. He didn’t find any anger, much to his surprise, Master Tapal’s eyes seemed much too soft for such an emotion, but the boy could tell that the Lasat was searching for an explanation.
“I…” Cal gathered the edges of his sleeves tightly into his fists. “I was just trying to be brave like you!”
After disobeying a direct order endangers not only his own life but the lives of his men, Padawan Cal Kestis worries his apprenticeship under Master Jaro Tapal will never recover.
