Summary
The trajectory of two lives were forever altered by the events that unfolded on the Isle of Fate. The brutal arm behind the straight blade tested everything Law had ever learned, pitting his patchwork skills against obvious strength and experience. Law was nevertheless driven back toward the rail, but just before he ran out of footing, the Marine's ruthless advance drew up short. Finding himself with enough room to suck in a breath, Law was finally able to catch his first glimpse of Rear Admiral Drake up close.
An austere frown looked so at home on the Navy man's face that Law figured it was probably as permanent as the scar on his rugged chin. Domesticated by the Marine cap, hair like spun amber snagged the warm sunrise, and below the hat's brim the eyes that regarded Law were blue like ice with none of the chill.

A boorish question, which gets under Killer's skin. It was meant to, of course. But ostracizing the dreams has only made them more intrusive—a beast that stalks nearer each time he looks away—as though Killer could possibly fail to understand the threat in their meaning.
Killer knows how much blood a man can lose before he dies. It's in the name, the epithet, and the reputation. The problem is that Kid's blood has always run hot, and Killer remembers how it had poured through his fingers, feeling as though it were filling up his lungs instead.

Marauders and adversaries come and go in various degrees of wretchedness. Sometimes things get ugly. People get hurt. Some days it's people you know, and some days it's people you don't. You scribble about them all, because even if it's only a footnote now, maybe you'll know how to chronicle it properly someday.
It's not always easy to know which details are worth recording. This time, your hand hovers above a blank page until a shadow falls over your shoulder.
