Summary
Fukuzawa had asked Ranpo what he wanted to do after the boy had proven himself by solving case after case the bodyguard brought to him. And without even thinking about it, Ranpo answered.
"I want to be a hero."
"A hero?" Fukuzawa hadn't expected that. He had the opinion that the boy was rather selfish, so something like heroics hadn't crossed his mind at all.
"Specifically," Ranpo continued. "I want to be the hero that other heroes and police call when they cant solve a case! The one they turn when they cant handle something with their simple, stupid, small little minds!"
"I want to be a Detective Hero!"
...
Fukuzawa calls in a favor with his old friend Nedzu to get Ranpo into the UA entrance exam and the little genius catches the principals eye.
This will be a fun year in the heroics program!

Summary
“You’d better not go,” Dazai says, and like the little imp that he is, he gives Ango’s shoulder another jab with his horn. “Without you around, who am I supposed to torment?”
Ango lets out a huff, though there’s no venom behind it. “I have half a mind to exorcise you.”
“Good luck with that!” Dazai pulls back to reveal a mischievous grin. “I was actually deemed Most Difficult to Exorcise by the people of Yokohama. Of course, most of them were hacks with only a tiny bit of supernatural awareness. A genius on your level of sleep deprivation hasn’t been seen in the last three hundred years. You might just stand a ghost of a chance!”
Ango has both a guardian angel and a demon of temptation. It is his infinite misfortune that they get along with each other so well and are now conspiring to make him go to sleep.
(In which Dazai tries to avoid work at every turn, Oda is an enabler, and Ango just wants random supernatural beings to stop invading his personal space.)

"Generally speaking," Dazai says, and he doesn't sound anything like the Dazai that Chuuya knows, "I can't imagine I'd go through the effort of faking my death when dying is both easier to achieve and more of a pleasant experience. Though it depends on the how and the why, of course."
"Bastard, stop talking in circles and–"
"Boss, huh?" Dazai says, and Chuuya breaks off. It sounds wrong, from Dazai, and Chuuya lets Dazai go. Dazai drops down to both knees, and then sits there, gazing past Chuuya and looking at the makeshift shrine on the imposing wooden desk. There's something dark in his gaze, and it's almost comforting. Almost, because it's familiar; it's a knife in the darkness that Chuuya has watched bring down hundreds of people.
"What," Chuuya snaps. "Going to tell me you want the position back?"
"Back," Dazai murmurs, drumming his fingers on his knees before he finally climbs back up to his feet. His hands go into his pockets, his posture relaxed and easy, and none of it makes any sense. "Chuuya, was I really?"

Summary
The five children are silent as they huddle together under Dazai’s black umbrella. The rain unrelentingly pours around them, the noise of the pitter-patter against the cheap plastic material making the scene all the more melancholic. When one of them starts crying, the others follow. One by one, they fall back into that pit of despair that Odasaku had tried to save them from.
In a strange twist of events, the orphans live.
