    All at once he’s painfully aware of what he just volunteered for. A parent event at Lian’s school. With teachers and conversations and children who have no reason to be prepared for a six-foot-four wall of scar tissue and bad decisions standing near the snack table.

    His instinct is to back track immediately.

    “Well—I mean, if that’s weird, I don’t have to—”

    Roy had fatherhood thrust upon him, and honestly, he's terrified. He doesn't know how to be a dad, he doesn't even know if he can be one. At least Roy doesn't have to do this alone- not as alone as he expected. Support from his friends brings the most unexpected bit of help Roy could have gotten-

    Jason. Dick's kid brother who seems more than happy to spend every second he can with Roy and Lian. Who smiles when Roy laughs and looks genuinely happy when he's holding Lian. Who cares about Roy more than he should- and who Roy never wants to hurt.

    And when he loses Jason, Roy is so sure he has. Sure he should have done something differently, somehow. So when a new face shows up in Gotham, and Roy gets wind of who he might be, he has no choice but to face the reality that Jason still needs him. That maybe he's got a second chance to do right by the kid he loved and simply couldn't.

    Dick sat in the darkness of his living room and sighed. Should he have approached that conversation differently? Bruce was hurt, he was angry, and most of all, he was sad. After all these years living together and working together (and being raised by the man he now considers his father) Dick knew that Bruce was pushing him away. He can't help but think that he made the conversation worse.

    In reality, Dick knew that Bruce would not be ready for a conversation surrounding Jason for a long time. But, Dick deserved to be at Jason's funeral. He gave Jason his suit, Jason donned his family colors. God, Jason, Little Wing, I'm so sorry I wasn't there. I'm so-

    Dick caught something in the corner of his eye. What?

     
    Or, 5 times Dick sees what he thinks is a hallucination of Jason as Robin, and the one time someone else sees him too.
