Susie was Susie, and Kris liked it that way. She wasn’t good with words but she somehow always knew what to say, and even though she wore her heart on her sleeve she wouldn’t say what didn’t need to be said. A mutual understanding sat between them, a bond that words wouldn't give justice to. To others she may have been weird, but so was Kris, the two far more alike than they ever could’ve guessed.
Only Asriel ever understood them so much, but at this point, it was hard to say if anyone ever understood them as well as Susie did. She didn’t need to say, “I love you,” because her every action did the talking for her. Though, maybe someday it’d be nice to hear, they thought.
For Kris and Susie, love has always been something they've grappled with and had to learn to understand.

Summary
The prize was a headband, a red one with long horns sticking out of the top. It was familiar, far too familiar for their liking. They took it into their hands, but their grip on it trembled slightly. The headband was a reminder, a cruel reminder of something they’d known for a long time.
“Aw, Kris!” Noelle leaned over them, smiling down at the unassuming headband. “It looks just like the one you used to have! Though, the horns look a bit taller. I guess they’ll fit, since you’re a good bit taller now too, huh?”
“Y-Yeah.” Kris manages to blurt out, standing up slowly as they stare at it.
“You uh.. Don’t seem super thrilled.” Susie comments, watching them carefully. She’d seen the old picture of them on the fridge, and she’d just as easily guessed what they used to feel.
Kris, Susie and Noelle all go to the festival together. Good times are had, but an old feeling creeps back into Kris' mind, that maybe they don't fit into the picture as well as they hoped.

“Um.. Draw any stupid pictures lately? Bet you got a whole notebook full of garbage, just like teach does. Hugging superheroes, demon samurai, sailors that fly. Well, which is it?” She grinned deviously, expecting them to deny her claims, but instead they began sifting through the cubby in their desk. “Hm?”
“Drew this.” Kris retorted, handing back a torn out piece of paper before planting their face between their arms down on their desk again.
She took the paper in her hands to gawk at it, only to start crumbling it up. They’d drawn a poor imitation of her, leaning over them with the word “SNIFF” in giant letters over them. The monster girl lobbed the balled up paper at the back of their head, but they barely acknowledged the act, snoring into their arms now.
Susie needed a different approach.
Susie tries and fails to bully Kris.

“That’s sludge.”
