"I’ll take the watch after Falin," Shuro said one night, and Marcille stopped dead in her tracks, her hands stilling on her lap where she had been sewing one of Falin’s buttons back onto her pack.
That was her watch. Her midnight moment where Falin would wake her up, that warm hand on her shoulder nearly petting Marcille awake instead of shaking her. It was Marcille Falin would smile at, only to have to cover a yawn next, and Marcille would sit up, and vacate her sleeping bag because she’d already warmed it up anyway, and Falin would lie down in it, and put her head in Marcille’s lap as she slowly fell asleep. Marcille would pick out leaves and sticks out of Falin’s hair - they always accumulated through the day - and finger comb it even as she kept an eye out for any monster that might come near. She would sit over Falin like a sentinel, and Falin would be safe, and warm, and protected.
Because that was Marcille’s job. Shuro had no business encroaching on it.

"Are you sure about this?"
Qifrey, sitting on his heels to inspect the soil, looked up and blinked. "Did you have a better location in mind? You should’ve said so earlier."
"That wasn’t what I meant and you know it. Are you sure about leaving the Great Hall?"
Qifrey got up, cleaning his hands on a cloth as he went. He looked ethereal in the morning sun, his white hair glowing in the soft light and an expression on his face as if butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth. "Of course I am. My master was stifling enough and you know what I think of witch society as a whole."
Olruggio had to fight the urge to kiss his lying mouth.
It was a smart thing to say. It invited people to cut him off, to stop him from saying things they didn’t want to hear. Shut that blasphemous trap of his, Olruggio had heard more than one master say through the years. But Olruggio has been with Qifrey for too long, and was too close to him, for it to work in truth.
He just watched his friend until Qifrey averted his eyes and went back to inspecting the soil.
Neither of them said anything.
Qifrey and Olruggio build a home. The atelier, and they, have a long way to go.

Diana is used to being admired and feared alike. It comes with the territory of being a giant Amazonian, one could say, even out of costume. Most people stop and stare when they see her, mouths gaping, eyes wide. Others reflexively look away, as if meeting her eyes would turn them to stone. Diana is no gorgon, but she understands she is intimidating.
Performing femininity – liking heels, the long hair, her love for skirts, things that generally make people think a woman less of a threat for reasons wholly unknown to Diana – does not negate the fact that she visibly has pounds of pure muscle.
This is a new response to seeing her for the first time, though: the sound of tiny feet trailing after her wherever she goes.
Diana has an admirer.

Honestly, Wednesday’s not sure what’s more horrifying: that she’s somehow managed to develop tender feelings for not just one boy but two (which seems a great deal like two boys too many, although she’s certain that her disgustingly romantic parents would disagree) or that she’s falsely accused one of them of being a dangerous killer when the other actually is a dangerous killer.
She misses having simple problems to deal with, like jocks bullying her brother. She knows how to handle things like that.

Summary
Angband is indisputably awful, a place of darkness and torture where Morgoth and those who serve him tear captives apart, sometimes for information but more often than not just out of cruelty and malice.
But the Coliseum....well. Glorfindel thinks that in some ways perhaps Iârgardh is worse. Because it is where Morgoth’s captives tear each other apart, pitted against one another in vicious fights while Orcs and goblins and others of Morgoth’s ilk cheer and jeer in the stands.
He’d never thought, not once in all his terrible nightmares of what the future might hold, that he would be one of those doomed gladiators.
And yet here he is.
