That's right. This was their routine, wasn't it? Where he'd expect Aventurine's arrival, no matter the day, just to greet him with open arms. Just to listen to him rant about matters that honestly did not concern Veritas but it concerned Aventurine and that was all that mattered. Just to whisper consoling words into his ear when the other man would occasionally be confronted with salt-ridden tears. Even though there was no warrant for this. Even though there was, truly, no reason for him to keep playing house.
But he did, and he wonders why he is so easily swayed by the man in his grasp.
