Summary
Wei Wuxian is about to strip out of his robe when he hears a sound. A quiet “ah”. Slowly and silently, he comes up around his privacy screen. He first looks under the bed, but there is no one. Wei Wuxian purses his lips. He could swear the sounds came from his room. His gaze travels to the closet. The door is slightly ajar. He goes over and throws the door open with his foot.
“Gotcha!” Wei Wuxian blinks. The closet is empty. And squeaky clean. This is when he hears it again. It is strangely louder from inside the closet. Another muffled “ah”. He steps fully inside, pressing his ear against the back of the closet.
Agh!”
Startled, he jerks back. That sounds … He can’t quite place it, but somehow his face heats. It sounds like pain and at the same time not. Either way, something is going on! He concentrates.
Then he hears it. Some kind of wet gliding noise in a short rhythm. Heavy breathing. It is faint, as if the person tries to muffle the sound. Another barely there “ah, ah” and suddenly Wei Wuxian knows what he’s hearing.
He rips his ear back abruptly, staring at the wood, face heating even more.

Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Lan Wangji’s hands are balled into fists as he flees deeper into the woods, not looking where he is going.
I shouldn’t have done it. He’d never forgive me if he knew. This is no way to behave. Shufu would be furious. And xiongzhang … He couldn’t even imagine what his brother would think of him, taking advantage like that.
Mentally, he is already assigning punishment to himself. Maybe this would fall under the use of the disciple whip.
While musing over how many lashes he should assign himself, his robe gets caught in the undergrowth. He tries to get it free, turns and comes face to face with a bright red bloom, petals glistering like fresh blood in the sun. He startles, taking a breath.
Lan Wangji takes another inhale before he takes a step away, still caught in some thorny plant. With one final pull, he is free, but it brings him back against the blooms. He gets another sniff and this time he sneezes. In a very loud and undignified manner. He glares at the plant before he fully turns away to continue walking.
“Lan Zhan?,” he suddenly hears the shout behind him and freezes.---
