Summary
Dustin wasn't the only one who lost Eddie. Mike's grieving him too, but he can't complain, hardly anything's happened to him compared to the others after all. And that's just the way of things; he's Mike the Brave. A great paladin and the heart of the party. But things are different this time. Everyone's falling further and further apart. Dustin's not ready to let Eddie go. Max is stuck in her unexplainable coma, with Lucas all but glued to her side. El and him decided they were better off as friends after California, but with her training all the time and having to hide from the government even that friendship is slipping away. And then there's the Will of it all. A great chasm between the two that's existed ever since their fight in the rain and just kept growing each year like a weed until Mike couldn't even begin to guess how to bridge the divide.
Now Mike spends most of his time talking to an outsider who listens to his problems, ignoring his rapidly worsening symptoms, and generally trying to tape up the cracks in the party as best he can.

Nancy’s head snapped up to stare at Will, who was standing propped up against the refrigerator.He screwed up his face as he took in the confused expressions of the other three in the kitchen, “What? It’s not even ten yet- we could make it there and probably back before everyone else gets here tomorrow. If he won’t- or can’t make the trip himself, let’s force him.”

From right above his head, Mike sees Bob’s mouth form a shocked little “Oh”, but all Mike can hear is the ringing in his ears. He gives up on controlling himself and wails into Bob’s shoulder.
Today, he watched his best friend forget everything that made him Will, stabbed him with a needle, saw countless dead and mauled bodies, and now the asshole responsible for trapping them here is telling him all of it was for nothing.
Or: Joyce and Hopper don't make it to Will's room in time. Now it's just Mike and Bob as they try to find there way out of the lab, and everything is about to go terribly, terribly wrong.
A season/series retelling diverging in S02E08 based on the idea that a possessed Will was meant to kill Bob, keeping the dark and horror tone of the first two seasons.

Vecna raised his left hand - no, claw - over Mike’s face. Immediately, a stabbing pain erupted all over his body. He could feel Vecna violating his mind, exploring every crevice. He felt tears fall down his face in a constant flow that should not have been possible. He cried out in pain, but was immediately silenced by a flow of black particles leaving Vecna's hand and making their way into his mouth. The pain he was experiencing increased by tenfold. He realized far too late that those black particles must have been the mindflayer. That thought flew away quickly, and was replaced with the agonizing pain of every part of his body succumbing to the control of the shadow monster and the monster before him.

Mike’s grip on his beer tightens and he doesn’t say anything. Drinking so much was a mistake. His head is starting to spin in a mix of frustration, guilt, anger-
“It’s been years Mike,” Lucas is saying, gentle like he is when he’s trying to get through to someone, “how are you going to move on if you can’t even talk about, you know, the good memories?”
The good memories are all tinted red and feel like impending doom, except they already happened, they’re not impending, they’re just always doomed now.
“Maybe I won’t,” Mike mutters, words slurring.

Post canon au with a little twist. Karen and Ted Wheeler don't survive the demogorgon attack in season 5. When all of his friends leave for college, Mike stays in Hawkins to take care of Holly so Nancy can finally go to college. Mike is left with a house to take care of, a sister to raise, and a whole lot of repressed guilt and grief.

Summary
He barely managed to lay eyes on her before hands clamped down onto his arms and shoulders, and chaos erupted around them once again. Guns flew up as fists were thrown, and distantly, Mike heard his name among cries and other yelling, but when he lunged toward his friends, the hands on him tightened, preventing him from running to them.
It took him another second to realize they weren't just holding him back. They were pulling him away.
Post El's "death," Mike and the rest of the party are detained by Dr. Kay and the military. When Mike is separated from them, he is forced to deal with an off-the-rails Dr. Kay and an angry Sergeant holding a grudge.
