Summary
It is after she has killed that poor man, and Bonnie stares at her in horror, and Elena has thrown herself in front of her to stop Damon from staking her that Caroline realises everything has changed. She sobs in that tiny toilet and lets Stefan calm her, but she knows this can’t last. Damon has been making his life miserable too and he hasn’t done anything to stop it. How can he possibly help her if he’s not strong enough to go against his brother?
Caroline flees after the carnival, and ends up in New Orleans.

“The ghosts tell me,” Elena says, gesturing to the room. Emily and Amelia are the only ones there right now. “Emily told me you have a deal with the Bennetts, and that you can help me reach Klaus.”
“Why do you want to reach him? I would think that, knowing what you know, you would want to be far away from him.”
“It’s not like I want to die,” Elena says as reassuringly as she can. “I just don’t want to wait around for it to pop up out of nowhere, you know?"
OR: Elena can talk to ghosts, learns about Klaus's curse, and decides she's not just waiting for him to surprise her.

Katerina slid to the ground when he left. Elisaveta rushed to her side and pulled her into her chest. Soon, she was sobbing and crying fresh tears which soaked Elisaveta’s shoulder. Her whole body trembled.
“I will come with you,” Elisaveta whispered into her sister’s thick hair. Katerina cried harder. “You will not be alone, sister. For as long as I breathe, I will protect you.”
In 1492, Katherine's older sister, Elisaveta, adjusts to a new life. Relationships are formed, trust is tested, and their fates are changed.

Sheila calls for help when Damon returns to Mystic Falls and targets Caroline. Caroline makes some unexpected friends.

Carlos wasn’t stupid. He was the top of his class. He had figured out there were ghosts (ignoring the whole chef/dip incident). So, when the ghosts came back to life and everyone had weird memories that hadn’t been there before, he got suspicious. He and Julie sat down with Alex, Reggie, and Luke and got the full story. It was a stressful situation, so he could forgive them for not noticing everything. But demons weren’t a good thing! They’d probably got themselves into a stupid deal and they’d go to Hell. Dios mío, not good.
