Lan Jingyi, who had evidently had *enough*, simply narrowed his eyes and marched their whole group to the edge of the clearing where Jiang Cheng was still locked in a standoff with the older Lan disciple.
Once they had a good angle, he simply narrowed his eyes and pointed at the tall Lan.
This was the exact moment when he looked over at them, and Wei Ying swallowed.“Oh. OH!”
After he was able to do more than gape again, (which took a not inconsiderable amount of time) he quickly bustled over, shot the tall handsome man who was evidently his husband a charming smile, and took Jiang Cheng's arms into his hands.
“If you would please excuse us for a moment, I need a word with my Shidi. Very urgently.”

A strange curse causes Wei Wuxian to shift back and forth between his childhood, teenage and adult self.

His posture was immaculate as he took a demure sip of tea before placing the cup down and elegantly rising to his feet to greet the two men with a bow.
“Welcome back Hanguang-Jun. I trust your journey was pleasant?” Wei Wuxian asked.
Lan Wangji looked to Sizhui who was eyeing Wei Wuxian as if the display had been painful to watch. “Like I said…” he spoke softly, just for Lan Wangji’s ears. “…he’s not hurt, but he’s acting really weird.”

After a few months of traveling, something strange starts to happen to Wei Wuxian; his old scars reappear on his new body. This would be...totally fine and acceptable, if it didn't also entail all the pain, and the wounds, and the memories. Reluctantly, he returns to the cultivation world for help. Well. To Lan Zhan. He returns to Lan Zhan.
Post-canon shenanigans in which WWX is traveling alone with LWJ as chief cultivator as in CQL, but he has Mo Xuanyu's body as in the book. We mix and match canon as we see fit here. Lots of angst, lots of nostalgia. We're getting the whole band back together and giving WWX some loving. I promise there's a happy ending here.

He pulls back to look at Lan Wangji's face, to see if there's any hint of that being a joke, or a lie hidden underneath, but all he sees is the truth.
Or: Lan Wangji gets hurt while protecting Wei Wuxian in Nightless City. Lan Xichen, Lan Qiren and Wei Wuxian nurse him back to health in Burial Mounds, and there, everyone learns they might’ve been wrong all along.
