Summary
Sonic had escaped from G.U.N.'s experimentation, with the help of Aeigus. Thousands of G.U.N. Agents hot on his trail while breaking through to the surface with renewed vigor. He couldn't understand! He'd proven himself to be the most trustworthy hero he could be. Kind to all civilians regardless of how they treat him.
Yet, this is how they repayed him. Anytime someone was reminded of his existence, glares came from all directions. Not just the Mobians, but the Humans too. Bothered by him surviving on the last source of energy and food he had. Like he didn't deserve any of it.
And as time passed by, Sonic gave in to routine. Days came and went. Turning into weeks, then months. By then, everyone was too disturbed by the incident to even talk to him. New subjects came in, none of them came out. Screams echoing from all corners of the room. He wanted to save them, but it was too late for most of them. And the ones that survived, the ones that he tried to help, beat him till he stopped. Not wanting to accept help from the one who they thought helped put them here.
If this was what they wanted, then fine. Hero or not, whatever happens to this world wasn't his problem anymore. Freedom was.

However, when Knuckles takes too long getting back to the campsite after going to “take care of his business” Sonic volunteers to go and look for him.
Instead of coming across his friend, the human ends up stumbling across something (or someone) he never could have expected…

Summary
His body segments were dark, a deep violet that shone with an iridescent gleam. The eyes from his hair had migrated to cover them, too, each shining segment appearing to shift even more with how the eyes blinked in and out of existence on their surfaces.
As Shadow Milk's meters-long body twisted and folded, he caught glimpses of its underside, too- it was the same bright cobalt of his hair, the hue only made more intense by the blacklight.
Pure Vanilla couldn't tear his eyes away, eagerly drinking in each detail even as his body screamed at him to run. He was…enchanting; the colors and patterns of his new body hypnotically beautiful— in the deceptive sort of way that dangerous things were, to warn you not to come closer.
But Pure Vanilla didn't have a choice— the danger was approaching him, and there was nothing he could do to stop it.
