Summary
Berk lived and died by its traditions during the Dragon War. Now that peace has been found at the demise of the Red Death, some traditions fall by the wayside, while others take longer to dissolve--especially when family pride and social gain are at stake. Astrid finds herself torn between what she truly wants and her sense of duty. Hiccup does not make things any easier for her either. But maybe--just maybe--he can find a solution to their woes.
I orphaned an older, unedited version of this fic long ago when I thought I was done with HTTYD altogether. I am resurrecting and reclaiming it now.

Summary
A winter has passed since the events of Ragnarök. Two weeks have gone since the time Kratos and Mimir spent in Valhalla, and both Freya and Kratos have yet to see one another since.
The God of War has remained mostly dormant in his position, returning to his old log home in Midgard, deeming it unfit to reside in Sindri’s. In his son’s absence Kratos has recently found himself feeling lost and alone, especially after his adventuring with Freya ceased in the winter.
Freya has taken up the part of a strong leader and a potent warrior since Ragnarök, but hidden beneath the facade of her duties and leadership, she feels weak and vulnerable. The loss of both her brother and son in such short years took a part of her with her, and things have not looked the same.
*This is a fan fiction that is based primarily around my suspicions of the characterizations of Freya and Kratos in God of War 4 and 5. This story focuses less on Atreus and most other characters but instead on Freya and Kratos, as with God of War 5 their story seemed yet to be finished, and Freya had a mythology that was not complete. I do hope to include a continuation of Sigrund’s and Mimir’s tale, but we shall see.*

Gwen blinked, and only then did she notice her blurred vision and wet cheeks. She clenched her jaw hard and tried to get ahold of herself, to reign her wildly fluctuating thoughts and emotions in before she lost control, but it was too late.
The water was already climbing her legs and dragging her body below the raging waves, submerging her whole in the cold, caliginous sea. Her lungs restricted painfully in her chest from the lack of oxygen, chest burning with an internalized agony that was viciously fighting to reach the surface. The feeling was both frightening and familiar. She knew what happened next, and she couldn’t stop it. She could do nothing but succumb and let her body go limp.
It always stunned her how much harder it was to see the light of the sun when you’re sinking steadily to the bottom of the ocean.
OR
Gwen unknowingly gets sent on a mission to Earth-65 on the anniversary of Peter's death. It doesn't go well, but Miles is there to help in the aftermath.
