The man lifted his hand, impatiently shaking his sleeve back in a gesture so familiar he was sure even before he recognized the hand, even before the hand tilted back the hat to reveal his master’s gentle smile.

Summary
Through a series of events involving angelic altruism and human tenacity, Aziraphale finds herself living as an anchoress (a form of religious recluse) in Wales. She has no real quarrel with her position, particularly because it gives her time to hide from Crowley while she tries to get her feelings under control. Crowley's offer of an Arrangement years before shook her to her core for more reasons than one, but she discovers that even isolation cannot prevent her from longing to accept.
When the demon in question appears in the anchorage however, all of Aziraphale's long-suppressed feelings come to the surface, and she will need to decide whether to turn Crowley away again, breaking both of them in the process, or finally take the biggest risk she can imagine.

Aziraphale leans back against the tree and starts to stroke Crawly’s hair. It’s clumsy at first, but Crawly’s hair is so thick, and so soft, and so tempting that Aziraphale finishes each touch wanting another. And some part of him is clinging to anything that will let him stay here just a little longer. Anything that will keep Crawly in his arms for another moment.
