“Just work a couple more years,” Daniel mutters to himself, slowly working the ropes around his wrists in a steady see-saw motion against the chair he’s been attached to. “Get to sixty-five before you retire. You’ll have seniority, a good salary, the pick of your stories,” he goes on, seeing the coarse rope begin to fray, “but what they don’t tell you is that when you live in a city full of psychopath vampires who like to LARP as superheroes, no salary is worth this shit!"
Daniel's just trying to keep his head down and write, but the entire city has decided that if they want access to Amadeo, the best way to do that is to go through him, which means that his regular hobbies now include drinking, complaining, and getting kidnapped.

They’re wrapped up together in bed. Daniel has his head pressed to Armand’s bare chest, Armand’s strong arms encircling him, their legs tangled together. It should be perfect.
The only problem: Armand is fucking freezing.

“That’s Eddie,” Buck answers, and the smile sneaks up on him. “Eddie Diaz. My partner.”
There. Relief washes through Eddie in a visible wave: his shoulders drop, features relaxing with the soft push of an exhale. Buck warms at the sight. Right answer.

The elevator hadn’t moved yet. They were still trapped in no man’s land, still stuck too far for them to easily get to Eddie and save him. Buck could try to keep faith, but Eddie knew better, and so Eddie had to say it before he lost the chance.
“Buck, listen, I—”
“Eddie, don’t. No goodbyes, okay? Please?”
“I’m not going to die without saying this, so shut up and listen.” Eddie managed to rasp out.
Buck, to his credit, shut up and listened.
OR -
Buck and Eddie are stuck in the elevator together as Eddie bleeds out from his stabbing. Truths are realised, secrets are spilled.
