    “No.“

The word rang trough the throne room like a gunshot.

Hermes’ fingers, which had previously danced over the screen of his caduceus halted and he raised an eyebrow as he looked up at Poseidon.

The Lord of the Sea held his head high, regally, unrelenting. His eyes were as dark as the waters surrounding Charybdis and his glance bored into each and every one of them, while his hands rested on his trident.

    A silent threat.

It’s a Reading the book story.

Old, done a million times and completely self-indulgent.

If you like this kind of story you’re probably desperate enough to check every new one out, if you don’t, I know there is nothing at all I can say to convince you to read this one, and if you don’t know what a reaction fic is and simply start this one out of curiosity , I might be the one to drag you into this rabbit hole.

If that’s the case, I am deeply sorry, and good luck. It’s pretty hard to leave this trope behind once you’re into it.

    Hi.

    I’m Sirrah Malfoy.

Daughter of Draco and Astoria Malfoy. Granddaughter of Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy. Oh yeah! I almost forgot to mention that I am the twin sister of the one and only Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy, unfortunately enough. You’ve heard of him?

    Well, isn’t that nice.

    Summary

She arrives at Briar already halfway gone. She understands velocity better than people. Her life has always moved in carefully controlled acceleration: deadlines, equations, impossible ambitions, and the quiet certainty that nothing, and no one, stays permanently.

Then Beau Maxwell starts lingering in her orbit. Briar's golden boy is supposed to be uncomplicated: charismatic, reckless, impossible not to notice. Instead, he notices too much. The exhaustion hidden beneath her competence. The way she disappears into work when emotions become difficult. The loneliness tucked carefully inside ambition.

And somehow, Elara keeps seeing through him too.

What begins as late-night conversations about racing strategy and performance psychology slowly becomes something quieter, stranger, and far more dangerous: recognition. The kind that makes loneliness visible. The kind that turns temporary places into homes. But ambition has its own gravity, and both of them are already accelerating toward futures that may not have room for each other.

Because temporary things are easy. It’s staying that terrifies them.
