Summary
In 1992 New York, Mike and Will share a cramped apartment and the quiet gravity of everything they’ve outrun. But closeness has a way of blurring into something messier, harder to name. Mike writes about sacrifice while Will paints about absence, neither realizing they’re telling the same story.
As Mike struggles to let go of his role as a protector, Will learns to stand in his own light, leaving them both lost in the ache of everything they haven't said, because what is simple in the moonlight, by the morning, never is.

Summary
“Forever?”
Though the camera doesn’t catch it, Joyce and Jonathan exchange an amused look over the rearview.
Then, the footage splices, rapidly cutting through various points in life—Will and Mike’s first time hanging out at the Byers’; Mike coming over for Will’s birthday; Will coming over for Mike’s. Flashes of middle school that stretched into those final days before they left for Lenora. High school, graduation, moving day—the clips start blurring into one another as more pop up, but it stops on a clip of Mike and Will, probably around six years old, giggling as they try to handle the camera.
“We’ll see about forever, honey.”
(or, the one where jonathan byers has a lot of stocked up video footage from when mike and will were kids, and decides that the best time to reveal them is during his best man speech at their wedding.)

There stood Mike, frozen like a statue. In front of him, Will was bent over, digging through the fruit drawer of the refrigerator. After a moment, Will straightened up with a ripe peach in hand. Ted watched his son continue staring at the exact spot Will’s backside had just occupied, wearing an expression of pure, hopeless longing.
Ted considered quietly backing out of the room.
"For God's sake, Michael," He said, instead. "Either take something out or close the door. I'm not paying to refrigerate the whole neighborhood."
Will turned around, blinking in mild confusion.
Mike’s face bloomed bright red. The blush was quickly overtaken by a scowl. He slammed the refrigerator door hard enough to rattle every magnet on it. “I was getting something! Sorry it took more than two seconds-"
“When exactly did your mother start storing the snacks in the back pockets of Will’s jeans?”
“Oh my God.” Mike spun on his heel and stormed toward the stairs. “You are so-" The rest was lost to thundering footsteps and the inevitable slam of his bedroom door.
Or, Ted realizes sometimes you need to be locked in the closet before coming out of it.
