Summary
"He could feel Vash, both here and on the other side, and the core of his brother's energy was right under his mental grasp, vibrant and alive, but its flows were all misshapen, reversed, and Knives felt his grip on it slipping away.
So, instead of pushing, as he and the doctor had defined he needed to do, he unconsciously did what he usually did with his own powers.
He pulled. "Or: Millions Knives messes up the opening of the Gates and brings someone new into Stampede universe, inadvertently changing the fate of the world and his own for the better. Well, maybe. Eventually...
He isn't going down that easily, though.
Not like anyone expects him to.

Summary
If he hadn’t already been a bottle deep when she approached him, Chronica realized, she probably never would have even gotten close. He’d have been a red streak in the distance before she crossed the threshold of the bar.
Commander Chronica finally catches up with the outlaw she's been hunting.

Summary
“Wolfwood,” Vash whispers. He shakes his head without taking his gaze off of Andy, who’s dropped his head. “It’s fine.”
Wolfwood shuts his mouth, though he doesn’t look happy about it. Vash isn’t sure he could ask for that anyway. When Vash rises to his feet, Andy lifts his face again, tears streaming off his cheeks. He’s grimacing, bared lips and clenched teeth, and for all the fury in his expression, it’s obvious what he’s feeling first and foremost is the pain.
Even if it wasn’t obvious, Vash knows exactly how he feels—has suffered through the same emotion every day for the past one hundred and fifty years, so he’d be able to identify it regardless.
“You killed my mom,” Andy whispers.
---
Vash and Wolfwood get involved in a feud that has nothing to do with them, as they always do. Lives are saved, but not all of them, and a child ends up orphaned, leaving Vash grappling with both his guilt and the remembered grief of when it happened to him.
