Ilya’s breath hitched. He’d never seen this. Why would he have? Shane had never been sad around him. Never hurt. Never in this kind of quiet, defeated pain. Around Ilya, Shane had been pleasured and angry and frustrated and gloriously competitive. But never this. Never shattered.

A sharp and loud cracking sound booms from outside of his window, tearing him from his frozen state of panic, and Shane whips his head around just in time to watch as a piece of the wing is torn backwards into the air before more parts of metal start to wobble and then strip away from the aircraft, disintegrating before his very eyes.
“Shane.” Ilya’s voice is suddenly there, loud and clear of the sounds of the screaming plane engines and the howling storm outside. “Shane. Shane, look at me, look at me please.”
Shane isn’t in control of his body now, puppeteered by an outside force as he shrinks and curls up with an almighty wrenching sense of dread. His head turns without him telling to do so, and whatever it was that was moving him guides him towards Ilya’s voice like it were a beacon; something within him that knows to seek out the comfort of his husband that was sitting right beside him.
Ilya.
He sobs again and winds his fingers around his as tight as he possibly can.
