Weathers hadn't always been in New Haven. Before settling in Connecticut, he wandered the west with his broodmate, feeding and fucking and killing as they liked. They'd been the worst sorts of Kindred their clan had to offer. Weathers wanted more. Delgado wanted... something else.
Weathers didn't know who Johnny's sire was when he took the kid under his wing; when he found out, he knew he had to make sure Johnny didn't repeat his same mistakes.

He didn't fail to notice how Miles almost preened, how his fingers twitched against Ira's jawline. Ira turned his head to kiss his fingertips, without ever breaking eye contact.

Miles advanced another step. He couldn't quite stop himself, even knowing that he should, even knowing where they were, and who surrounded them, and everything at stake. This was not a place to frenzy. But he was so tired, and Neil looked so small, shrinking away from him like this, and that, just, it felt good. Or something like it. It felt as good as his many failures permitted him to feel. It felt at least as good as he deserved.
