Donnie was silent. He didnt know what to do with his brother clinging to him, sobbing his eyes out.
“Dont leave. Dont leave us, Donnie. We love you. We didn't know.” He babbled out, words slurring slightly from the amount of crying he was doing. Leo nuzzled his way into Donnie's face, trying to hold his twin as close as possible. Leo— through the tears and lip quivering— planted a weak kiss on Donnie's cheek.

Surely, Donnie's panicked brain garbled in his last moments of hysterical consciousness, Icarus too bragged of his talent as he reached out for the sun.
And then he slammed into concrete and everything went black.

Donnie gets knocked off of a building during a fight and subsequently finds himself in a ghost-like state for a good amount of time while his brothers are fighting and his physical body is on the brink of death.

Booming footsteps sounded behind him. He could feel something—someone much bigger than him, breathing down his neck.
He didn't quite manage to process the situation in time.
Before he could whirl on his other opponent, a cattle prod was thrust into the back of his neck, paralyzing him with the force of the electric shock. Donnie's breath punched out of his chest, and he felt himself crumpling to his knees as someone roughly grabbed his arm. Voices sounded off around him, but he couldn't make out the words.
The last thing he saw as his vision went black was his phone (containing his tracker) clattering to the ground, and the unimpressed faces of his kidnappers disappearing as he was thrown over someone's shoulder like a sack of potatoes.
He'd barely even been able to fight back. How embarrassing of him.
(or: a group of sky pirates need a fuel source to power their ship. donnie's appearance presents them with a perfect opportunity.)

He was right. Donnie never froze. His mind wandered back to Meat Sweats’ tentacles, and the soft-shell shivered in disgust at the memory. Why was he acting like this? Raphael had been taken over by those disgusting fleshy things. Leonardo nearly lost his life. Why was it Donatello who froze in horror at the mere implication of being touched by those things again?Donnie snarled and ripped out the wire he was having trouble with. It was purple. Why was it always the purple wires that acted up first?
“Uh… Dee?”
Donnie shrieked and smacked his forehead against the inside of the panel, a fresh burst of pain running through his head. Crawling out from his little cave, he met the eyes of his youngest brother, who sported a look of guilt and poorly concealed amusement.

Since you clearly know everything about me!” Donnie hated lashing out like this. He knew it was bad for the team… especially their morale. I would rather die than ask for help from these imbeciles! They know nothing of mystic poisons, all it would take is just one pinch– “This isn’t about you! If you go down, so do we ‘Tello! So if you could stop thinking about yourself for one second–!” Leonardo growled as Mikey shakily held onto the now cold pizza box. “Oh that’s rich coming from you! You’re so self-absorbed I'm sure I would pale in comparison.” Donnie knew how to make words hurt after the years of having to defend himself when he was young. Leo glared at him. “Don’ I'm not taking the bait. Go blow off some steam and take the fucking pizza with you.” I see stubborn is another trait we share. Mikey nervously pushed the box into his arms before following Leo out the door.

Summary
Donnie collided with Leo in a tangle of limbs. There was an instinctive cling in return from his twin, before the realization sunk in.
"No." Leo breathed in his ear, immediately shattered. "No, no, no, no, no!”
Every muscle in Donnie's body was shaking like an earthquake from the amount of effort he'd just expended. The explosion caught up to them, sending the twins spiralling away into space and debris.
For one singular moment, Donnie allowed himself a burst of victory. His heart was still thudding a thousand miles an hour in his chest, having been absolutely terrified he wasn't going to make it in time. But he did. And he held onto Leo, his prize.
Then they hit the ground, the sudden tumble bursting them apart. Donnie felt the world spin, rapid and disorientating, before he slammed into something rock and cracking under his impact.
