She doesn’t know if it’s been minutes or hours, by the time she hears it. Like muscle memory, MJ lifts her gaze to the rooftops.
He’s maskless, grinning down at her from the rooftop of that abandoned cafe like she’s the only thing in a ten-mile radius worth looking at and speaking in that voice that feels to MJ a little bit like coming home and a little bit like she never left at all.
“Now what on God’s green earth,” Peter Parker calls down to her from his perch, eyes sparkling with mirth, “is a pretty girl like you doing in a place like this?"
The way he asks— posture relaxed and mask forgotten, eyes crinkled like the whole thing is some big inside joke— it’s like he already knows the answer.
It’s like she does, too.

It takes time for Peter to adjust to his new schedule for patrolling, the desire to be home with his growing family taking precedence.
More than anything, his new patrolling schedule meant he got to be home with his family more often, refusing to miss any milestone.
With Sloane, who’d relished in prolonging bedtime with longer stories and requests for cuddles in bed while they looked at the glow in the dark stars he’d hung on her ceiling amidst her love for astrology.
With Oliver, who at five months old seemed to be getting older faster than Peter could comprehend, coming home from work to find he’d learned something new while he was gone, his little personality showing glimpses of shining through.
With MJ, who he somehow fell in love with even more each day, savoring their quiet evenings catching up on their TV shows or watching movies, unwinding from making it through the day as parents of two kids.

Not died– he’s alive, Miles brought him back but it’s different now, worse than it had been when he was in “Europe” for a treatment plan that neither he nor MJ knew about.
Now, Peter knows exactly where Harry is and what his days look like, knows the full extent of his injuries and the lack of brain activity that if Norman Obsorn were a gentler man, might have let Harry go.
Peter exhales, hating himself for thinking that way. There was a chance, small as it was, that Harry could wake up again– Peter refused to let go of that small hope. If Norman Osborn could hold on to it, Peter could too.

“I still can’t believe you lied to that guy,” Peter laughs, practically whispering as though afraid they’ll get found out as newlywed frauds and kicked off the plane, even though the doors are already closing. “You’re an evil mastermind.”
“Is that a conflict of interest in your line of work?” she nudges his foot with hers-- less of a reprimand this time, more of an urging to keep it going, keep it moving.
Peter laughs brightly enough that the passing flight attendant, closing the overhead bins above them, grins at the two of them knowingly. The rising sun glints off the tarmac outside of their window, reflecting off of the arced white ceiling of the cabin and back down onto the curling ends of Peter’s hair.
“Who cares,” he leans into her space again. “I’m on vacation.”
