It starts with MJ Watson arriving, four hours late with sunglasses resting on her head, jaw working on a piece of gum that went stale on hour two of her drive.It starts with Gwen Stacy who hadn’t wanted to go into another shitty college dorm, dating Peter Parker who couldn’t afford to move out of his Aunt’s spare room.
It starts with Peter Parker in a sweat stained t-shirt after unloading her moving van without her presence or even an introduction, watching on as his girlfriend tries to clear the air by wrapping her arms around MJ in a welcoming hug. He doesn’t know the journey she’s been on because she is not inclined to share that sort of thing with strangers.

It doesn’t matter that some of those acts are weeks old. It had nearly been a month since she and Terrific had found Clark in the pocket dimension.

The demand for her presence on Capitol Hill came with Government-provided safehouse that she only accepted because Hill was the one to slide her the keys. Once that all ends, Natasha is on her own once more.
There is only place Natasha, Natalia and every version of her is truly welcome. Or so she hopes.

Just as the ceremony is beginning and the Dean is giving her Welcome Address, Peter’s phone buzzes.
It’s a group chat. A thread that stopped being used in the Christmas of their Freshman Year. The chat is reawakened by this new message. Icons appear under it as each person within the group begins to open and read the new message. Peter’s eyes tearing away from his screen to look back down towards MJ, unable to meet her eye when her head finally turns back to him. A familiar sense of guilt washing over him. It would almost be comforting if everything else about the situation weren't so startling, because after all: No one expects to receive a text message from their dead girlfriend.
