Summary
Roy Mustang goes out to investigate an explosion, and what he finds is himself. Specifically, his seventeen year old self, shaken and terrified and somehow jumped forwards in time by twelve whole years. How time-travel is even possible evades him, but he knows they need to find a way to send the younger version of Roy back to his own time.
Edward joins the efforts, lending his mind to the problem - but what Ed finds is a sweet kid so in touch with his emotions that he cries all the time and stands up for what's right even at great danger to himself. In other words, the complete opposite of the Bastard Colonel.
As they all work together to send Roy back to the past they inevitably become closer, what starts as friendship turns to more, and questions about who Colonel Mustang is finally let Ed see his CO in a new light.

Later, Roy will swear that it started out completely innocently. A bit of harmless fun, though it could be very well argued that he has a slightly skewed understanding of fun. Or harmless, for that matter. The intention is—well, not good-natured, quite the opposite really, but he doesn’t mean for anything in particular to happen. Except having Edward scream at him a little, perhaps, which shouldn’t be something he takes as much pleasure in as he does, he’s aware, though it’s difficult not to when Edward’s rants always make for such great entertainment.
Then again, aggravating his subordinates for his own amusement in the first place is not something he should have any plausible reason for doing—except for the fact that he is a terrible man with a godawful sense of humour and not a shred of healthy sensibility, but that is neither here nor there.
or: Roy merely wants to be little bit of an asshole and accidentally uncovers Edward’s praise kink.

Roy Mustang owns a bar. He’s not a bartender, he can’t mix drinks, and he’s a recovering alcoholic who isn't allowed to taste the merchandise, but he owns a bar, and he tries to contribute as best he can. Mostly, it involves coming up with drink names based on his recent breakups, and asking his bartender, a long-suffering Edward Elric, to make the drinks for him. It’s a system that works, until it doesn’t.
Or: Five times Roy Mustang named a mocktail, and one time he got one named after him.

Roy Mustang does not have a soulmate.
Roughly forty-seven percent of the population is born without the words of their soulmate tattooed on their skin. Ninety-two percent receive their soulmark by the age of five. At age eighteen, if you still do not have your soulmate's words, you are part of a sliver of the world so small that some people do not realize your existence is even possible, and the likelihood you will ever receive a soulmark is almost nonexistent.
Roy had given up on the promise of a soulmate by the age of sixteen, and he had never looked back.
