In order to survive, he must decide who he is going to be: the vulnerable Bucky Barnes or the indomitable Winter Soldier? Two decades after the Inferi first crawled from the rivers, Regulus learned what the universe had already made clear. It doesn’t owe the living anything, and certainly doesn't care whether he exists. This becomes startlingly clear when a normal scavenging trip ends with a bite sinking deep into his ribs. Problem is, Regulus is desperate for survival yet has not an ounce of self-preservation.
Told from Regulus’s POV, the story starts with five survivors: Regulus, James, Sirius, Remus, and Lily. They navigate the ruins of the Scottish Lowlands to survive the Inferi, the elements, and other cruelties in what remains of humanity.

Summary
Being a rockstar and carrying its attitude is a hard task that James and Sirius have to accomplish, and love gets in their way.
Their music was pure chaos. Peter’s drums were a bit too loud for anyone who really listened. James skipped a few notes, pretending he was waiting for the crowd to sing, when everyone there knew he just couldn’t hit them. Sirius’ charm was more evident than his guitar skills, even though they were pretty good.
That was theirs, and it was perfect for them. It fit them. Everyone knew, the moment they said they were starting a band, that it would sound like this: three boys determined to be the best of the best. Remus’ mouth curved at the edge as he watched Sirius with that thought.

Jack had just stepped back onto the main floor when he clocked movement at the ambulance entrance, two guys hurrying in, the smaller one helping a guy with a sweatshirt covered in blood. But something was wrong, some unnamable instinct rising within Jack at the way they moved. It was too fluid, too controlled. Jack knew what the walking wounded looked like, had seen it for years, from war zones to bar fights. This wasn't the injured seeking help; this was men hunting.
Time slowed, Jack's heart rate spiking, the adrenaline dump casting everything in sharp relief—the full ED floor, patients plus shift change meaning twice the usual personnel were here.
Robby was here.
That thought got him moving, Jack approaching laterally. He got there right as the guns came out.

And maybe you don’t remember all of it, maybe some of it’s jumbled up with all the pain and noise and things they forced into your head, but…it’s always been there. Me and you. I think maybe, some part of you always knew. ”
Or in other words, a story of boys who always loved each other and of men who try to remember.

Bucky recognized he was fucked in the head. A broken skull and electricity often resulted in brain damage. He relearned how to walk and speak. He kept his name written on a piece of paper to carry around. He holed himself up in his room for days and yelled at anyone who crossed ways with him. Steve was convinced it was all part of the onerous path of recovery.

Life without Bucky isn't really living anyway, so he might as well give it his all.

rated m for some descriptions of sex and also a bit of violence and suicidal thoughts (to some extent) in later chapters, but it's nothing too extreme idk lol
