Summary
In a world where the merpeople of the ocean are known by humanity, but sirens are thought to be extinct, Dean Winchester is in trouble. On a routine hunt with his brother, he manages to get himself captured by a group of fishermen who sell him to scientists for experimentation. Dean finds himself locked in a tank hundreds of miles away from his home, with no allies and no conceivable way to get back to the ocean.
Just when Dean thinks he has no chance of escaping alive, he finds a friend in the kind, blue-eyed doctor named Castiel. As Dean tries to survive in the facility, he finds salvation, safety, and maybe a little more in his new ally.
In the frantic rush to break Dean out and get him back to the ocean, is there any chance for the budding attraction between the siren and the doctor to thrive? Or will it be doomed to a watery grave?

Sam, never a man not to micromanage, has arranged for a P.A. to keep Dean organized in his absence and, thanks to a little emotional blackmail, a security consultant to watch Dean’s back.
Cas, the bodyguard, may be hot, but he’s also grumpy and thinks, probably rightly, that Dean’s a complete idiot. Plus, the poor guy’s got his hands full with Dean’s jealous cast-mates, asshole reporters, over-enthusiastic fangirls, and crazy internet stalkers, so really, it’s a good job Dean’s not Whitney Houston because falling for his bodyguard is too cliched even for him. Right?

It's natural for omegas to have family members present during the first couple of days of their heat while their alpha takes care of them. Having family present offers stability and grounding, keeping the omega from physically and mentally dropping from being touch starved until their heat really sets in.
After Purgatory, when Dean can't pretend he's a beta anymore, that proves to be the part that he has the most difficulty with.

No, Charlie isn't willing to let Dean get away birthday-free like everyone else (ie: Sam and Cas) does. Rather, she gets that steely, determined look about her and declares that she will ensure he gets a big, gross, gooey party with speeches and presents and 'making him feel special' or she will die trying.

Retirement was supposed to be peaceful, closing the book on Chuck and rewriting their own stories. Dean should've been happy. He'd always longed quietly for normalcy, for that picket fence life that never quite fit him.
Dean knows it's over now. No more monsters, no more apocalypses, no more loss. His mind just hasn't fully caught up. In his nightmares, he's still there. Never really free. Still trapped, and giving up.
There were some things Grace couldn't heal. Sometimes, it's the human things that are the most healing.
