And then Xie Lian sat up. His voice returned to him in full and he let out a guttural scream that had laid dormant in his chest for centuries. Gasping in the air that he so desperately craved and clawing desperately at the wounds that were not there and trembling from the cold that did not exist. Soaked from head to toe in sweat and not his own blood, his body trembling like a leaf in an autumn breeze. The god gripped his heart hammering in his chest as he curled in on himself sobbing into his knees as his whole body ached. Everything was still and quiet in the room, any noise felt fuzzy on the peripherals of his senses as the world slowly came back into focus.
His citizens and kingdom are long gone. He was not dead. He was not bound. He was in a soft warm bed and there was a comforting hand on his back.

He doesn't remember making any movement or sound but he must have because suddenly there's a warm hand against his cheek and an anxious voice beside his ear.
“Wu Ming? Are you awake again?”
“Your Highness?” Somehow he manages to force the words out this time, soft and hoarse and barely audible even to his own ears, but he manages it.
“Wu Ming! You're still with me!”
There's so much relief and pain in that voice that it steals the breath Wu Ming doesn't have and the ghost desperately wants to reply, to tell his god that, if it's up to him, he will never leave his side again, but to his dismay the ghost finds that not only can he not form the words, but that the two words he did get out seem to have drained him once again and now there's nothing for him except to fall back into the darkness.
As all sensation fades away again the last thing Wu Ming hears is his highness saying, “I'll save you. No matter what it takes I promise I'll find a way to save you!”
OR Wu Ming survives the evil spirits and Xie Lian finds a way to nurse him back to health

There was almost nothing more that Xie Lian enjoyed than sleeping in with his husband by his side. Though he was in the habit of moving around a lot when awake, and quite enjoyed it, he loved being able to sleep in without worry, held between the most comfortable arms that ever were.
Only one thing was better, and it only came up on occasion when Xie Lian was feeling a particular urge to become a cat and join a colony for the cuddle piles: a clone or two of Hua Cheng in whatever forms he chose, as long as they could nestle into him just as snugly.

“Thank you,” Wuming breathed. The words slid against Xie Lian's lips, the almost of a kiss that left tingles in its wake.
“Uh huh.” What were we talking about again? “It- it was nothing.”
Wuming retreated to a distance that didn’t tempt Xie Lian quite so much to dive back in. His lips were quirked faintly, his eye half-lidded. His gaze lingered on Xie Lian for a few moments before it dropped to the wad of fabric in his hand. Xie Lian took the chance to recompose himself.
“...It’s really nothing special,” he said.
“I love it.” Wuming’s voice brooked no quarter.

Hua Cheng had gotten used to the former battlefields of Xianle and Yong An being abandoned. He had, after all, set to finding, identifying, and vaguely bringing remembrance to the soldiers. Thus, he didn't really expect to be interrupted while excavating and searching for his own remains on the current field.
