“I haven’t really been to a wedding where I’ve, uh… let loose. But, hey,” Dennis shrugged, “maybe I’m doing it wrong.”
“If I hadn’t already agreed to go to this conference, I’d offer to go with you,” Robby said casually. “Show you how it’s done. I’ve got a good track record as a plus-one, too.” Dennis had to say something. To interrupt. To shut this down. But what was he supposed to say? No, you can’t be my plus one, because I lied about my cousin, and there is no wedding, and it seems a little weird to bring a date to a fucking funeral– “Apparently parents love it when you bring home a doctor.”
And just like that, the bubble popped.
“I’m not gay,” Dennis snapped.
He had never hated the sound of his own voice as much as he did right then.

Or, Dennis is anxiously headed home for a "wedding" in Broken Bow, Nebraska, the details of which are increasingly fuzzy. Robby's got a medical conference in Omaha that same weekend. So they carpool. Seventeen hours both ways in an enclosed space with no way out except a tuck and roll. This'll go great. -

As Robby lifts his shirt up, Dennis is overcome with the need to bury his face in his armpit until he passes out. The gold chain with its Star of David that he always wears rests just below his collar. As Robby strips off, Dennis allows himself a longing look.
Yeah, Dennis admits to himself, he’s down pretty bad.
He’s certain that the fishing trips his brothers took with their dad didn’t have this additional complication – that of the man taking them being so hot they’d want to cry. Trinity’s comment, ‘daddy wants to take you to the woodshed,’ bounces around in Dennis’s head.

Stiles definitely starts off thinking it’s fucking hilarious that Derek-sourwolf-Hale does crosswords and cares about scuffs on his furniture.
But at a certain point, and he can’t pinpoint exactly when, “fully functional adult couple” somehow becomes a massive fetish of his. Derek in sweats and bare feet, nudging his glasses up his nose while he does the Sunday crossword? Unff. Derek filling out forms to get some renovations on his property approved? Oh God, yes. Derek putting away groceries and bitching that the corner store was out of the right type of Greek yogurt? Take me now, Stiles thinks, worrying at his lower lip with his teeth.

Cee inhaled sharply. I’m not helpless, she wanted to tell him, but was that true? It felt like everything she had learned from her father hadn’t helped when it really mattered, but then again, herself and Ezra were only alive because of her, though she would never boast about it, especially because of her partner’s permanent disabilities, a direct result of her actions.
“We can’t stay here,” she spoke eventually. “I’ll learn. I promise.”
Ezra smiled sweetly, his dark brown eyes searching hers. “ ‘Atta girl. I wouldn’t have any other alongside me. You’re exceptional, birdie. We’ll do well for ourselves out there.”
“Foraging and salvaging.” Cee repeated, looking out the viewport at the starry night, the dancing lights coaxing her closer with their promise of adventure.
Ezra cleared his throat, a goofy grin on his face. “And, of course, anything we procure - even split?”
Cee turned and smiled back. “Of course.”

Derek doesn’t want to call the window repair guy. He doesn’t want to sweep up the glass. He’ll inevitably miss a few shards and pull them out of the bottom of his bare feet for weeks.
He doesn’t want to try to make this place feel like home when it isn’t.
Derek stayed in Beacon Hills and tried to make it work because he wanted pack, wanted purpose. He gave his best effort and found himself back where he started: alone, with a few begrudging allies. He’s tired, and even though his werewolf body heals quickly, he feels the weary ache down to his center.
He packs his car with the few things he cares about enough to drag them from place to place. He locks the loft and calls a realtor about listing the building he’d bought in a misguided attempt to secure a future.
And then he leaves.
