Summary
The first time Dr Michael Robinavitch encounters Detective Jack Abbot is on a Tuesday afternoon outside Central Seven. Jack has a black eye and tension in his shoulders from being on high alert.
It's not the last time they meet.
Jack continues to come into the ED with suspicious injuries, and as their friendship grows, Jack refuses to let Robby in and tell him what's really going on. Robby is convinced something bad is going to happen to the person he's started to fall for, and he feels powerless to stop it.

“So–” Dennis starts, and Trinity honestly isn’t sure how she’s going to explain this one.
“I know it’s weird,” she says, gripping the steering wheel.
“I mean, it’s not that weird,” Dennis placates.
“He’s kind of a trainwreck,” Trinity defends, and then feels some type of way about the fact that she’s defending Langdon.
Dennis doesn’t disagree.
She promises him, “It’s only temporary.”
(Langdon's wife kicks him out. Trinity offers up her couch. She ends up learning a few things about her sworn enemy in the process.)

Summary
After a disastrous final shift on July 4, Robby leaves for his sabbatical.
Eight days later, somewhere in the Badlands, he awakens to a dozen missed calls and messages from back home. Something terrible has happened. Frank Langdon has been shot, and he might not make it.
Consumed by worry and by guilt, Robby returns to Pittsburgh, the memory of his last, terrible conversation with Frank playing on a loop in his head.
He hopes it is not too late to make amends of his own.
“Is he dead?” Robby manages to rasp out. His body is curling in on itself. He can feel himself unravelling. It’s too familiar. It’s all too familiar. This can’t be happening. “Is Frank fucking dead, Dana?”

It seems to hit him very suddenly, and the flinch Frank gives at his boss’ tone is very real. “You were working on this fever.”
“Uh… didn’t realize at the time.”
“Yeah, I’m sure.” Robby sighs, the gesture terrifying in ways Frank doesn’t know he can explain. He’s not a child, but he’s suddenly ten and his father’s home from work early. “This isn't just about you now, Langdon, it’s affecting other people. You can’t keep this tough guy thing going and expect it not to backfire.”
It nearly knocks the breath out of him. The shame that sits in his lungs is usually his own; he’s lucky to make up most of Robby’s disappointment himself. It’s been a few weeks since he’s seen it so clearly. “I’m not trying to,” he admits, voice cracking with the weight. “To… to tough it out. I’m not.”
Frank's sick, and Robby learns why that's so much more difficult now.

And I have a damned long list.” He takes a step forward, eyes liquid in the orange candlelight. “What do you think happens to soldiers in war, my Lord? To the peasants, and the bastards, and the blacksmith’s boys? The ones without blue blood and silver armour?”
“I –” Hans swallows. “I suppose –”

No one's really been okay since the invasion ended. Artemis is back on the Team and back to school in Central City, M'gann and Connor are helping the Team stay afloat, Roy's quit the business to take care of Lian, and Dick has retreated back to Blüdhaven.
With all this, everyone can't help but notice how Kaldur's reacting to the last year of trauma, and to it finally being over.
Or, in better words, how he's not reacting.
(This is a story told through communications logs, security camera transcripts, and letters home that were never sent. It is a story about recovery and redemption, about heroes and what it really means to have sacrificed everything to save the world.)
