When Zane rebuilt himself after defeating the Overlord, he was interrupted before finishing. A couple of memory chips, a few data banks, and a lot of height was left behind. The reconstructed Zane has the mind of a child and the body to match. He doesn't know what's going on, where his father is, or who any of these strange people who seem to know him are. There's a lot he's going to have to find out, and quickly, because the Tournament of Elements is on.

The two of them skidded to a stop by his bike, and Nelson tossed U-Jin his spare helmet and put his own on. "Put that on and get on the back!"
U-Jin mimicked the way Nelson put on his helmet, though he tugged his ponytail through one of the holes on top, then looked at the back of the bike flatly. "That is a basket best suited for lightweight materials. I am not that lightweight!"
"Under normal circumstances, maybe, but this bike was made to be super-sturdy because of my clumsiness when I was little, and no evil fire snake was able go break it," countered Nelson. "As long as you don't try to rock super-hard, we'll be fine."
U-Jin still didn't seem entirely convinced, but a vague roar in the distance seemed to make up his mind for him, and he quickly clambered up onto the empty basket once Nelson was ready for him.
(Or, in which Nelson makes a new friend, Unagami quietly freaks out over how desensitized people are to chaos (and also over the joy of making a new friend), and Antonia's big sister instincts go into overdrive over both of them.)
