Summary
She watches him strut around headquarters, trying to look confident and purposeful as he searches for a reason to be there—orbiting Mel, while being quietly consumed by something she isn't sure he has the cojones to face.
Trinity sighs, weighing her vendetta against Mel's happiness. She really is getting a martyr complex, just like the rest of these sick fucks.
(Kingdon, reluctantly witnessed and orchestrated by Trinity Santos, who kinda has her own thing going on and doesn't need this right now)

Summary
It had been an exhausting debate the previous afternoon when it became clear he’d caught the run-of-the-mill cold Tanner brought home from school. He could push through, the ED was already a little short staffed because it was that time of the year.
But Mel had used the logical arguments he’d given Tanner over the weekend against him: rest is vital; there’s plenty of things to keep you occupied while you’re laying down; the sooner you accept you’re sick the sooner you’ll start feeling better.
Besides, Dana would have taken one look at him and sent him right back home anyways.

Summary
“I swear I’ve mentioned Alex before,” Mel murmurs, frowning down at her phone, still not clocking how she’s short-circuited Frank’s brain. It's a blue screen of death up there. Hi, you’ve reached Dr. Frank Langdon. I’m not available to talk right now, but leave a message, and I might get back to you. Beeeeeep.
The picture continues to shine cheerily up at them, silently mocking Frank. He forces himself to look away and swallows with difficulty. “I think I'd remember if you'd told me about your ‘best friend’ who you ‘used to be in love with.’”

Summary
When they had made the appointment, it was specifically on his day off so that he and Abby could both be there, but he wouldn’t be surprised if she had planned this just to get back at him for the times he’d flaked on her for work.
Now that he’s met Ms. King, though, he was very thankful there was some five alarm emergency at the firm that had pulled her away.
