  3. Summary

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
    ----------------
A series of canon compliant one shots, a lot of them are loosely thematically connected but at this point they’re just all here b/c this is the set that i’m planning to get printed out into a book lol.

You don't have to read these in order or all together / they're mostly grouped as a series to help people find them more easily. Order is chronological.

Updates whenever I feel the urge. Feel free to make requests but you'll only get follow through on my part if you manage to give me a brain worm.

These are "canon compliant" in a somewhat loose sense. I treat Reinhard/Kircheis and Reuenthal/Mittermeyer as "subtextually canon", ie implied heavily enough by the text that I can write them without contradicting the OVA in any way.

From Iron Dreams Press this Spring - A New, Complete Edition of Nat Rome's alternate history epic, A Wheel Inside A Wheel!

In our world, three and a half centuries ago, two young men, Reinhard von Musel and Yang Wen-li, grew up to become Kaiser Reinhard von Lohengramm, the founder of the Neue Reich, and Fleet Admiral Yang, the greatest commander to have ever lived, and the last, great hope for the Free Planets Alliance.

But in a different lifetime, at age sixteen, Yang Wen-li was forced to flee his father's debts and hide as an outcast in enemy territory, under an assumed false name: Hank von Leigh.

And in a different world, at age ten, Reinhard von Musel and his family became political refugees-- running to the FPA to escape his sister's promised servitude to the Kaiser.

Although Reinhard and Yang have traded places in history, neither of them can escape their destiny: to become the forces that shape the future of the galaxy.

Nat Rome's sweeping saga, A Wheel Inside a Wheel, is a magnetic, operatic, and unforgettable journey through a world that might-have-been, realized with an unprecedented depth and clarity of vision.

    Summary

Under the watchful eye of President Nikiforov, the small Baltic country of Galkechnia has made a fortune selling invasive military technology. Then, on a nearly bloodless morning, Nikiforov’s reign comes to an abrupt end. But revolution gives way to bureaucracy. A war crimes trial exposes national traumas, and a messy, prolonged regime change forces personal secrets out of hiding. As the trial falters, and a vacuum of power expands, eight citizens must decide for themselves what the future of their country holds.

Told across a decade via interconnecting narratives, from Karina, estranged daughter of the dictator seeking to free her family from its bloodied name, to Max, an agender would-be political assassin who must weigh vengeance against the opportunity for a new life, and Dounia, an Afro-Russian expat politician whose hunger for power previously denied to her tests her legacy, DACHA is a speculative drama about tyranny, family, and moral compromise.

(BIG content warnings for transphobia, homophobia, war, and stupid convoluted politics that I think anyone who actually cares about international relations or political theory would have a hard time reading without cringing to death. )

    Summary

After Reinhard returns to Phezzan (in e110), he and Annerose finally are able to talk-- but honesty is a difficult thing.

    -----

“I wish I could make you promise to be happy, to make it all worth something,” he said. “But I shouldn’t do that to you, either.”

    “Thank you.”

“Do you think you will be?”

She couldn’t answer that. Her most natural mode of looking into the future was one of dread. “Yes,” she lied.

“Good,” he said. “That’s all that matters.”

She was silent for a minute, stroking his hair. She almost wondered if he would fall asleep. That would make it easy for her to slip out of the room, and not come back. But his eyes were open, and he was watching her reflection in the window, staring at her. She found that she wanted to ask something.

    “Were you happy, Reinhard?”

    Summary

When Annerose awakes from her nightmare, she doesn’t cry out. In fact, barring her sharp intake of breath and abruptly wide, fearful eyes, she doesn’t look awake at all. This is how it’s always been — the immobility, the soundlessness. She is unobtrusive. Easily ignored.

She had been dreaming of the house again.

From the way Reinhard tells it, Annerose had no say in going to the Emperor and was a victim once she was there. He couldn't be more wrong.
